What Capo for my Gibson?

I never used a capo. Last year I bought a Gibson "Sheryl Crow" and started playing mostly acoustic. Now I want to try a capo. Is there one that goes well with the neck of my Gibson? Maybe one that would not hurt the neck finish? The guitar is more or less a reissue Gibson Country Western - very similar to a Hummingbird. The neck is medium size - not fat - not too thin.

There are tons of "Which capo?" threads. I vote for the Kyser. I've got four or five of them (and one Shubb: meh...). To [semi-]customize the Kyser for your neck, you can reverse the silicone rubber pad that rests against the back of the neck. The two sides are different thicknesses to accomodate different neck thicknesses.

Good luck with the Gibson, the Sheryl Crow is a wonderful guitar. Kyser also makes cut capos, which only capo the top 2 or 3 strings. I've always wanted to learn the C&W capo style that uses the cut capo.

I would vote for a shubb capo. I have both a Shubb and a Kyser, and my Kyser sucks!

every now and then I try a different one, but always go back to shubbs.

Well, I've had one Gibson or another around for way too long, and have tried a bunch of capos. Had a Kyser, seemed kinda neat when they came out & was pretty nice, but loaned it to my son-in-law for a gig at which he lost it. Heck, I've still got some of those elastic strap capos hanging around somewhere.

But my favorite is the plain old Shubb. Compact, can keep it in a shirt pocket or wherever at hand, can't wear 'em out, works on any Gibson or other neck I've ever tried--and that covers about every conceivable neck thickness & contour, believe me--and doesn't mark up anything. I'd guess I've had a Shubb for 30+ years. I have at least two of 'em and keep one w. my main guitar in the case.

I use the same Shubbs on my Strat & Tele for those infrequent calls to capo an electric.

Of the G7th capo! I like the infinitely adjustable pressure....doesn't throw out the tuning.

As TDPRI'er "Sincaster" would say, "I'd rather be without my b*lls than my G7th"...

Personally, I use the dunlop... They come with a life time warranty for around $45 AUS.

That will be coming in handy, as mine fell apart today. Haha.

Im sure there are better capos out there, so you might want to avoid it.

I have several Shubb's and used them religiously until one came unclamped mid-song when I was playing solo acoustic. I'm sure I did something wrong to cause it, but I've used Kysers in live settings since then to be safe.

Shubb Deluxe.
Mine replaced my Keyser. I bought a G7th and returned it because I didn't like it as much as the Shubb.

Some people love Shubb's, some people like Kyser's...I prefer the Kyser Quickchange.

Check out the planet waves NS Capo, they are nice and light and easy to use with a low profile.

I like my Shubb. I've used Kysers over the years and some others. The Shubb it small and doesn't throw you too far out of tune. The Kyser is a little worse about tunings but it can be operated with one hand if you need that.

Either one would probably work fine.

I own several Keysers (mandolin Keyser also), a Shubb, a Planet Waves, and most recently, a G7th Performance capo. The G7th is far and away the best of these, in my opinion, for standard electric and acoustic guitars.
