Arlo July 3rd, 2008, 06:45 AM Anyone used this yet? It looks very inviting to me.

I certainly don't need 32 channels but the smaller version would go nicely in my studio.
octatonic July 3rd, 2008, 06:49 AM At a base price of $50k you'll be hard pressed to find anyone here that has one.
Looks great though- if I was in the market for a mid format console it would be a shootout between this, the new API and the Tonelux.
I'm going to stick with my D&R for a couple of years longer though.

I saw the new API at the NAMM show and talked to the rep about it. That looked killer as well. There was a cardiac surgeon there who was a guitar player and he was going to get one I think. I am sure he has the coin.
The price is steep.

Indeed- sounds great though.
Do you know Tonelux?
IMHO the best deal going- you can get in for about $10k for a small 8 input system with a couple of comps and buy as you go.
Everything is rackmounted so easy to truck about- sound is superb.

Worth checking out.

Octatonic, thanks for the heads up on Tonelux. The price sure is right! I am gonna do a little research have you any suggestions on sound clips of it in action?
Looks nice!

No worries.
Have a look at the Tonelux Youtube Channel (http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=tonelux&search=Search)
Arlo July 4th, 2008, 06:55 AM In 1997 my friend Russell Whitaker was refurbing a Neve 8058 which once belonged to Ian Anderson. He had 8 modules wired up in a rack with a homemade power supply.
Before the complete board was restored we used them 8 Chanel's to make many albums with. I remember we would have this jerry rigged unit sitting on the side of the SSL SL6056E, G Series.
I used it on a Celtic album I was recording and man the quality of the tracks was just stunning.
I would like to have that rack here in my studio
Here is the Brent Averill Neve Module Rack for $2300.00 this is where I might go I think. http://www.audiolot.com/proaudio/sales/products?id=248
Does Tonelux offer nodules?

Not sure you know this..... the Brent Averill rack is empty- that is the list price for the empty rack.
You then need to spend around $2300 per channel.
Not the cheapest way to get into it.
Josh from Audiolot posts a lot on gearslutz- might be worth contacting him on there if you have questions. Great guy btw.
Do you just need channels or do you want a mixer?
If you want a mixer, go Tonelux.
If you just want channels, then API lunchbox is great.
I have a bunch of API 500 series pres and they are great value for money- different tone to Neve but still a great rock n roll tone.
Tim Armstrong July 4th, 2008, 07:30 PM I hear really REALLY good things about the Toft ATB boards (http://www.toftaudiodesigns.com/)...
Unfortunately for me, I have a Behringer budget...
Ick!
Cheers, Tim

Very good, affordable board, the Toft.
The best buy out of the made in china options.
Arlo July 5th, 2008, 09:22 AM I was thinking Averill would be a way to start adding modules but I suppose you are right it would be better economically speaking to consider something different.
API lunchbox sounds cool too.
I have a friend who works for CalRec and has been in the studio equip biz for many years. I bet he has some good connections on some used gear.
I have always wanted just a couple of Neve modules. Someday soon I hope.
