Trashcan cab got me thinking

Thanks to 11ga post about his rubbermaid cab, someone posted about using on of those wooden wine boxes to make a cab. I had one that I was using to store some sandpaper in and thought hmmmm. Like I need another project but while the lacquer dries on my partscaster I have a month to idle away.

I am not savvy on the amp/cab building so could use some advice. The dimensions are 21x13x7 and it is made out of 3/8 inch cheap wood, probably pine or fir. It should hold a 10" perfectly with enough room. So, is it worth it? It is really poorly made for a music instrument but I would take it apart and fit it better. I though about using caulk or something to seal up the seams and using 3/4x3/4 for reinforcing. Am I foolish for thinking this or do any of you with experience think this might work and turn out decent. It would be neat to have in the living room with a small head on top for playing/furniture.

What say you?

make it a slant cab! And if you put in big ports, you could store wine in it!

You can reinforce the inside...frame the inside.

Go for it.

2 x 8 ?? Could be pretty cool!

I think that I'll go for it as it is almost already built, just need to get a baffle or two or three, and shore it up. Do you think that the little gaps in the crate will "leak" any of the sound? I am going with an open back anyway so it might be moot to take it apart and fit it better. Let's see, I might even be able to cram a Blue in there...

Yes, but it may not be an audible issue, unless you get buzzing at the gaps.
