It's an effect I can slowly hearing my self use more and more. Any suggestions on what pedal to pick up? Basically I'm a cheap bastard so I wont be paying too much and really am just looking at e-bay and Daddy's junkie music.

The Dano tune melt is a steal, buy it now! Even after using amp trem and a tremulator it still sounds good.

Yeah, I got a used one a year ago and still use it with my 18 watt. It's got a great lo-fi sound to it. Perfect.

+1 on the Dano.

Also, the Guyatone VT-3 Tremolo sounds realy good and has a small footprint for your pedalboard (if you have one). I think they're $75 new, so used might be close to the Artec your looking at.

Two easy steps for acquiring the poor mans tremolo.

1) Grab your tele's headstock.
2) Shake vigorously.

Note: to be used with caution.

Who says anything about using a tele? Also The tuna-melt?? I dunno I look at those things and they look like I'm gonna break them with multiple steps. Right now I'm bidding on a carl martin surf trem.

Well, good for you. You asked for suggestions, you got 'em.

I've gigged my Tuna Melt for a year and it's ok. I spent as much for the pedal as I would for a 6 pack of beer.

Don't know what you mean but that statement. But I believe Durtdog was saying that for the lower price than the Artec the Dano Tuna Melt is a pretty good pedal at a great price.

I stumbled on this forum when i was searching for problems I was having with an amp and I did once have a Telecaster but alas I sold it and now play an Ibanez AS83 and soon an old Guild Solid body S type from the 80's that I will probably pop p-90's in.

And with all of you talking about the tuna melt I may check it out.

TUNA MELT TUNE MELT TUNA MELT!!!
...and it's the color of used beer.

They come with a protective cover to protect the admitedly flimsy knobs, and the stomp button should be fine as long as you don't actually 'stomp' it. I keep mine on the top of the amp as it is usually either on or off for the entire length of the song. I have the Carl Martin as well, and am selling the Carl Martin.

Dan-O mini-pedals in general are excellent, and low-priced.

I'm another happy Tuna Melter, but I must say, the superior pedal for a little more money is the Marshall Vibratrem Pedal (http://www.blamepro.com/marvt-1.htm). It has all the great features of the Dano but you get a knob for gradual shaping of the trem wave, not just a hard switch from square to round wave. Plus there is a "Vibrato" option that I'd probably just ignore, but it could come in handy. Oh and it has two output jacks for stereo send of the tremolo effect. Maddening to my ears, but again, it could come in handy.

You can see my trusty little TM down on the floor. I'm editing this post now. Though I've always wanted that Marshall VT-1, I'm reading the reviews on the page I linked too and it seems to be pretty unreliable. I figured the all metal construction would mean it was better built, but I've used my Tuna Melt (in it's cheap plastic case) for about 8 years now without any trouble, so… TUNA MELT!

I own both pedals (the voodoo labs and the dano---as well as some others)

if you can afford the VL trem, get it... it is a mid level trem... but you can't get it for less than the 'great deal' 60.00... The two knob and four knob VL are different so make sure you try before you buy. You can get extreme trem sounds out of the VL. The demo on the dano is not the greatest and it is capable of very subtle sounds just like the VL.

It might be worth heading to the guitar shop and trying them out.

check out how subtle this is and yet how extreme it CAN get get.

That one is a little better But still feels like it's lacking something. Anyone have an EH pulsar? I can get one on ebay for $59 but I've had a clone theory and it hisses something awful when in engaged is this something all EH's do or just that one?

There are so many good Trems out these days, and I'd be curious to try the new Dano Cool Cat (True Bypass at that)Tremolo as well. Good prices for what look like really decent gear, as we're presently enjoying the new Transparent OD, Distortion, and excellent Vibe pedals.

I(Andi) have personally really liked the (fullsize, older) EH Pulsar, a nice shimmer box that does the job quite well, and the Voodoo Labs Trem most definitely has the bases covered. We had a Boss TR-2 quite a while ago and liked it for the most part, but the volume drop when engaged didn't always help.

Interestingly enough on the contrary, the bias-trem Moollon Tremolo I bought years ago has a 1/2dB boost to it when engaged (love it or hate it, we've heard both) and it's been on the board since. Needless to say, I joined the company as an employee two years later.

When they released that pedal they also released a bunch of other pedals all with the same styling and all with a common theme of deli names, Tuna Melt, CornBeef, Pastrami, T-Bone, Grilled Cheese, etc. The names were pretty random, but memorable.

I can't believe no one suggested the Line6 Tap Tremolo yet. It's more highly tweakable than nearly any other trem out there, works in stereo, and sounds great.

These ToneCore pedals are a great value, especially if you find them on the used market in good shape.

Got one. Love it.
And I find the Line 6 pedals a little worrisome - not sure these knobs and switches are going to hold up. Just picked up a Roto Machine this week - weighs a ton but the knobs look frail.

Anybody have a Line 6 knob or switch break on them?

The idea of setting a tempo while I'm trying to play rhythm does not sound fun to me. And yes I will agree but go one step further and say all line 6 knobs look a bit frail.

Tap tempo is a cool feature to have, but you can also set tempo with the knobs too. One bypasses the other.

If you can tap 8th notes (or quarter, or whatever) while playing you can set the tempo exactly how you want it. Most guitar players i see tend to tap the tempo with their feet anyway. It's not nearly as hard as you might think.

I haven't been exactly kind to my pedals, but I haven't had a problem yet. I do worry that the knobs might be on the frail side, but knock on wood, I haven' broken one yet.

Back in the days when I had infinite amounts of time to kill, and was soldering all day, I developed a lustful look for the nice Leslie cabinet that was at that time attached to my Hammond drawbar unit...well, no sooner than that, I had whipped up a little A/B box, and converted a volume pedal to an accelerator, and presto!! KILLER tube tremolo! On the one side...my Marshall Bluesbreaker (tremolo sucked in that thing), and on the other LESLIE...now THAT my friends was kickin'!

Could I fit in the gig box?...ummm...nope. Who cares? I owned a VAN...so, was it economical? Already having the Leslie...yeah it cost me about twenty bucks in junk parts...was it easy to get around?...ummm, nope. How did it sound? Ain't a pedal on that planet that swing your tone like that!!!

I ordered the new Dano Cool Cat CT-1 last week. The store did not have one in stock for me to try, which makes me a bit nervous. But I have always liked the Tuna Melt and ASSUME the CT-1 is the same circuit in a sturdier pedal, ie, metal case, metal jacks, true bypass, etc. We'll see when it arrives.
