squier affinity bass

A local shop has a red affinity bass for something like $120. Looks pretty much new.

I really know nothing about basses. I'd like one for home recording, and for playing with friends (a couple of us trade off guitars/basses). i don't need anything amazing, but I don't want a piece of junk either.

Decent sound, reliability, sturdy hardward, basics. That's my thing. Found a Fender Rumble 100 amp for cheap, too, so that's a possibility.

Anyone help me out here?

I really like the blue on the new Vintage Vibe or whatever they're called....that 60's P bass is pretty cool. But it's $300 new, so a chunk more than this used Squier.

Thoughts?

My advice is take a look at the Squier Vintage Modified Series...I was rather impressed with them, especially for the price...they feel good, sound good, and I think the Affinity series has a thinner body...I may be wrong..maybe closer string spacing as well? Here is a link to the Basses Im referring to. If you could find one used on the bay or craigs...shouldn't be more than 175 bucks.

I'd love to find one around that price. No luck, though, on Ebay, and nothing local on Craigslist.

Looking at the Squier specs, the neck widths follow the standard Fender Pbass and Jbass specs. So the Pbass, even the affinity one, is wider than any of the Jazz basses. Not a ton, but a little.

I have a Squier Affinity P-Bass. I paid $160 for it brand new. Disclaimer: I'm not a bass player, and I only play it a couple of times a year. It's strung with Thomastik flatwounds, and I play it through an SWR Workingman's 10. I'm very pleased with the sound and playability.

Here's me gigging with my Black Sabbath tribute band on a stock Squier Affininty Jazz bass. The pedal is a Boss Dynamic Wah (autowah)
