I've been given a squire jazz bass my a friend to sort out its buzz. Usual story the buzz diminishes when you touch the bridge. OK - so, I've checked that the bridge is earthed (grounded), moved all the earths (grounds) to a common point on the body of the bridge vol pot and earthed the jack socket to the same place. Guess what? Buzz still there. Anything else I could do - was thinking about shielding everything, but this does not really seem to be the answer - it just sounds like an earthing problem.

Any clues?

Many thanks

Do the easy thing first - the foil shielding . . .

If that doesn't get it, you may have a ground loop with too many grounds in the same area - i.e., pots and the jack together.

Good solid grounds are preferred over any shielding, so you may even want to trim away any shielding near/at the pots. Find a good alternative ground for the jack . . .
