Has this been permanently disabled?

Paul got rid of it because it was causing strain on the server, and apparently costing us money for no good reason. At least, that's how I remember it!

Cheers, Tim

Yeah but you're on the inside.

When I use the pop up menu and chose "who is online" I get this message:

"The administrator has disabled Who's Online."

Hey, I didn't understand what you meant at first, but then the lightbulb went off and I edited my post to reflect the current situation!

Cheers, Tim

Thanks Tim (I knew you were trying to trick me again). Not necessary feature, just fun to see who's looking.

Tim has it right.

You can still see if people are online by checking the little light in the bottom left of their posts, if grey, they're offline. And if green, they're online (good for 5 mins either way).

Yep that is the way to tell who is on-line and who isn't.

Yes, but that's only if you see them in a thread. The bottom of the homepage used to have a "paragraph style list" of everyone's names that were logged on at that time.

And on your profile page you could add specific members as friends or something. When you looked at the "list" there would be a "+" next them. So When you felt picking a fight with Tim, you could easily spot +Tim Armstrong in the list and go get him. Or send +Mark Davis a PM knowing that he was online and could reply while you wait instead of the next time he logs on.

But then I may have been the only person who noticed. Not a big deal, just fun to see who else is awake at 3:00 am.

Hi, yes, I disabled this feature because it takes up a lot of server resources to display that. It doesn't cost any money... but in a round about way it could. There are 3 or 4 features like that that I have disabled. If they all were enabled then our current server would slow down a lot and I'd have to upgrade the server to an even more expensive machine.

About 4 or 5 months ago I hired a specialist to eek out a bit more life out of our existing server and it was disabled at that time.

Thanks Paul (and Tim), I knew there were others features that were turned off, but I just wondered if this was permanent or an intentional maintenance outage to come back later.

P.S. I can still find you Tim:lol:
