Pedal comparison website

I need to ask a couple of pedal questions regarding the differences between reverb and delay, as well as exactly what compression is/does.

Obviously, at this point I'm too ignorant to even properly phrase the question.

I seem to remember a website somewhere that explained and compared (sound clips?) various pedals, but I failed to bookmark it and now can't find it.

Anyone know the site I'm talking about?

It doesn't have sound clips, or at least the last time I checked it didn't, but Robert Keeleys got a good pedal FAQ at his site. Musicians Friend has sound clips of various pedals on their website, and I know Boss pedals website offers some samples as well.

Those sites have never helped me. "Yea through my 4000 dollar lespaul and Marshall Halfstack this pedal sounds great" And half the time they don't even play it for you off and then on its just on. So is that pedal going into your clean channel or dirty channel?

You tube is by far the best way to compare pedals.

The last place that you want to audition clips is from the vendor's website.

You can bet that they will polish the recording AND optimize it for headphone listening.

The most honest clips I've heard were as the result of research, and not a need to sell anything.
