A Nice Compliment

I've owned a bass for a long time, but I've only been playing bass seriously for only a couple of years. Last night and today, we opened for another band with a stellar drummer/percussionist. The drummers in my band look to him as a role model. They're in awe of the guy. After our set today, he came up to me and said, "You're my new favorite bass player. You're really solid, I love what you're doing." I was flabergasted. I don't really think of myself as a bass player. I take what I do seriously and do my best to come up with appropriate parts for the songs, but it's really pretty basic. But I can see how a percussionist would like that. Someone who is keeping it simple and leaving space in the music. Anyway, it was one hell of a compliment and I'm still thrilled and amazed to get props from such a good player.

Sweet, congrats, man! He didn't have to do that - that he did speaks volumes. Goes to show, especially when it comes to the bass, it's not how many notes you can squeeze into a bar, but how you groove.

keeping it simple and leaving space in the music

That's my motto(es).

Congratulations on a nice compliment!

That's cool as heck, Paul!!!

Doesn't surprise me, though. You've always been a team player, and that's especially appropriate for us bass players...

Cheers, Tim
