Which one do you prefer, and why?
Actually, it's a trick question.
Over the years, I've read of countless reviews of the Guv'nor where folks regard it as fantastic pedal. I've also read countless reviews of folks slamming the Daddy-O.
Recently, I compared the schematics of the two, and hold on a minute - it's the same pedal!
Kinda funny how perception can be altered by the advertising and visual aspects of a pedal...
Really, this is just a heads up for Guv'nor freaks on a tight budget. Snap up as many used Daddy-O's as you can, because Danelectro has gone to SMD construction, which means that maintenance is not an option with the current pedals.
And if you're one of those luckless souls who has a Daddy-O and hates it, there are some simple mods that will make it a bit more mild. Hint: the LED clippers are responsible for most of the objectionable fizz. Try 4 series/parallel silicons in their place.
