Too Lazy To Break Your Heart - Rock

The song is my own composition for our band, The Tonic Rays. I played the solo on a MIM tele, bridge pickup (Harmonic Designs' 54 Special), the rhythm parts on an all-original 57 tele. The amp is a Siegmund Midnight Special, a one-channel, no-master, one-power tube (1954 El37) cranked up to around 2 o'clock and mic'ed.

Nice. Very nice.

Sounded like a little bit of Pretenders kind of thing going on there in vocals at times.

The bass and drums sounded a little thin (tinny, bright) to me especially the kick. Showed up somewhat in the mix overall but more so in the break right before the guitar solo.

But hey - that could be these crappy speakers on my computer.

Nice song. Bottom's not too thin, but kick could use just a little bit more punch. Not too much, just a little.

What I found distracting, was that the bass player is trying (with limited success) to do too much, bless his heart. I think on a song of this type, a simpler bass line would support the groove better.

Thanks, guys. The bass player himself said afterwards he wished he could do his part over again .... by that time it had already been mastered! Agree about the kick drum too.

I've always liked The Pretenders, they're an influence on my writing for sure, although our singer, who is 24 years old, has barely heard of Chrissy Hynde. ;)

I think punch is what I'm missing too.

I have a hard time trying to put audio concepts in words.

Good song, I like the singer and the rythm is cool :) (good solo there too)

Bass too thin?
It almost blew out my monitors.
Did you remix it?

I think the vocals, though, should be brought up a little more.

RE: "with Grace Slick and Marty Balin harmonizing ..."

You put that in just for my benefit, didn't you?

Oh, I forgot to mention that I liked it. Liked the bass line too. Didn't think it was too busy.

Well OK! I didn't remix it. The tune been mastered and won't be remixed till we're famous and the album gets reissued and remastered

BTW we intentionally kept the vocals at that level throughout the recording, we're going for that 'just over the guitars' live feeling. In fact the song was recorded live in the studio except for the solo, which I overdubbed.

No problem - REM has made quite a nice career whilst burying Stipe's vocals.

Kewl groove! For some reason the solo reminds me of Ted Nugent!

The Nuge? First time anyone's ever said that. That's good, right?
