How to use a strat brige P/U in a tele bridge position?

Hey all, I've got a Rio Grande Muy Grande strat bridge pickup that sits in a box and was thinking that it might sound pretty good in the bridge of my Squire Standard Tele.

First thing i recognize is that the tele bridge pickups have a baseplate and the strat pickups do not. Any idea on how to mount the pickup into the bridge of the tele?

Thanks,
Jeremy

it's your axe, but just out of curiosity, why would you want to do a thing like that?

Bored I guess, I was just wondering what it may sound like.

I wouldn't do it ... maybe buy a new tele bridge pickup ...

The main gripe about a strat is always the weak bridge p.u. sound.I think you'd be better off trying to trade it for a decent tele bridge p.u.in the classifieds.

A couple of problems with doing that. The Telecaster bridge pickup hole is sized properly for a strat pickup but there's not enough room to dirll Strat mounting holes in the bridge plate.

You could body mount the Strat pickup and and glue screw heads over the original Telecaster pickup mounting holes .......... however the Strat pickup is too wide to fit in the normal Telecaster pickup cavity. Widening the cavity to accomadate the Strat pickup would leave the cavity showing on the sides of the bridge plate.

You might be able to file the bottom flatwork on the pickup to allow it to fit in the cavity. That might require drilling new mounting holes in the flatwork.
