I've been fooling around with gear for weeks ... latest messing aroung with pickups. Anyway, I decided to make some music. This clip is a reggae-ish tune using:

G&L Legacy ... stock pickups ... mid-brg notch about 5 Treb/8 bass
Brown Note D'Lite 22/33 with 5881 tubes on OD setting
Parallel cabs 1x12 Celestion G-1265 + 2x10 Emi 10516
Yamaha Bass thru Fender Bassman
Jamstix 2 for the drums
Using Sennheiser e609 mics thru Bluetube preamp

bump ... any feedback on this quick recording?

I had been working on my G&L Legacy by putting in a Dimzarzio Area 58-58-61 set. Sounded OK but I was a little disappointed.

This recording was basically a track after going back to basics ... the stock Legacy pickups ... after some time with height adjustments. I feel like they are much more alive ... more nuances.

This is the only one of the 5 guitars that I've not been satisfied through the new Brown Note D'Lite 22/33. I was kind of pleased with the sound ... but I might just be getting tired of working on it.

That guitar sounds killer doveman. I wouldn't be disappointed at all. Nice playing too. Post some more!

Thanks for the feedback ...

I was actually disappointed with the Areas pups, so I put the Legacy stock pickups back in and kept tweaking the heights and balance. I made this recording of the stock pickups and posted it in several places ... feeling OK about the result with the Legacy pickups.

At most of the sites, I got no replies ... sometimes that means bad things. I began to wonder if I just wanted a solution and had talked myself into it.

I like it a lot. REally nice playing. How hard is it to program the drums?

I've been using Jamstix 1 for a while and just getting the hang of Jamstix 2. It's really pretty easy. It's sort of a "virtual instrument" inside my recording software ... lives on one of the tracks. My habit is to write the drums first and then add the bass, guitars, maybe keyboards and vocals. I recommend the software.

Are those sound samples on the doveman tech page also through the Brown Note? If so, I definitely like the stock pickups better.

Yes ... I did some A/B with the Areas and the Stocks ... same amp settings for both on the Brown Note ... sort of middle of the road not the best settings for either set. This gave a feel for the differences in the pickups. However, I can dial in the stock pickups ... while I can't seem to dial in the Areas.
