Marshall Sound from a DRRI?

Right now I'm getting a pretty good "meat and potatoes" overdrive sound from my DRRI using either volume or a Bad Monkey. The Bad Monkey is trimmed way, way down. Almost nothing. And yet there's not a whole lot more drive the pedal can offer. I use a 60's Classic Tele and a Korean Casino. Have a thin skin Jazzmaster heading my way this summer, too!

What I'm looking for is a good chunky and mid-rangy sound coming from the DRRI, not nu-metal by any means, but closed back Marshall, gain on 3 kind of thing. Think Pixies, Breeders, etc. A good rhythm sound. Wondering if a pedal can achieve the sound I'm looking for.

I've looked into the OCD and like some of the Z-Vex stuff, and yet it's hard to tell what they're going to sound like with the way I'd use them. You don't tend to hear a lot of rhythm guitar on gear clips.

Any advice?

I've heard great things about Carl Martin Plexitone.

You might want to try a Marshall Bluesbreaker or Guv'nor pedal...

The Marshall GV-2 Guv'nor Plus. I have a newer one and it delivers the Marshall amp tone in spades through a clean tube amp.

Tonebone stuff is smoking. OCD is incredible too.

ZVEX Box of Rock (either the factory made one or the handmade one) will give you good replica of a JTM45 sound through a Deluxe Reverb. So far i like this pedal better than any other overdrive/booster types I've used.

Don't know if it is exactly Marshall tone or not but I can get a nicely grunty mid rangey tone out of my DRRI with either my TS9 or Crowther Hot Cake.

I usually set the TS9 to give mild grit and the Hotcake for more growl.

Whether it would be Marshall enough for you or not I can't say but it certainly ain't Fender clean!

Get a tonebone or get an amp tech to add a switch/footswitch with a resistor that allows the mids in the tonestack to be added again, will run the amp much hotter and have punchier mids.

I have a Keeley Ultra Mod DS-1, which I use to get my Marshall tones from my Fender amp

Another vote for either the Marshall BluesBreaker II or Guvnor II (depending on how much gain & bite you need...)

Check out Menatone pedals, he has a couple of Marshall-type pedals.

How about a Brown Sound in a Box II, or a ROG Thor?
Never tried the Thor, but the BSIAB II is great with humbuckers. W/ Single-coils, meh.

I'll 3rd that. The BBII will get you the JTM sound, the GVII is more JCM800. I think these are both great pedals.

+1 I think either the Wampler/Indy Plexi-Drive or Plextortion would be great for what you describe.

Heard good things about the Marshal Pedals.

I'll crank up my OCD and get a pretty good marshal overdrive sound out of my DRRI, but I can't really get the cleaner Marshall tones.. Not quite sure it's possible with a DR.
