I traded my Ashbory for a Tiki flea Ukulele. I needed a uke that I could take on the Harley with me, so it seemed a good deal.

After I discovered Owen Holts Polyurethane strings (http://www.roadtoadmusic.com/Parts.html) I started thinking the Ashbory to be a more viable instrument. I liked Owens Bass Ukuleles (http://www.roadtoadmusic.com/bass.html) but there where a few reasons I didn’t want to spend the money on one. So I decided to order the parts I couldn’t make and build this on a cigar box.

It turned out really cool. I got some good responses to it at the Newport Guitar Festival Miami Beach.

The neck is made out of Honduran Mahogany with a Purple Heart finger board. I was at Shell lumber a few months ago, its an Ace Hardware store here in Coral Gables, looking for some mahogany for a ukulele project. I pulled out this one board 6" by 8' and it was curl from one end to the other. I paid almost $70.00 for it but the way I'm going I'll get 8 necks out of it. I snatched up a piece of Purple Heart and Paduck at the same time. The headstock overlay and bridge are Paduck. I cut the pearl for the headstock but DePaulie had the mudflap girls pre-cut so I just ordered two of them.

The parts.

The curl in the mahogany, this was another project. a ukulele banjo made on a gourd.
