teleftcaster June 10th, 2008, 02:28 PM I've read alot of good things here about the Seagull guitars in my price range (400-700) and, since I'll have to order online (I'm a lefty), was needing opinions between two models: 1. The S6 (with preamp) and 2. The Performer cutaway model. I find the S6 at around $550 and the Performer at around $750. Besides the better finish (and maybe electronics?) is there anything else that would justify the extra $200 for the Performer? Thanks for your help.
Rob DiStefano June 10th, 2008, 08:22 PM I've owned at least 8 Seagulls, and I've probably played all the rest of the models that I haven't owned. The best of the lot for me was, and still is, the lowly S6. I would never get an acoustic with built-in electronics ... adding a K&K Pure Western Mini set of under bridge (not under saddle) transducers is a much better way to go, and no batteries are needed. The Seagull is the only acoustic I'd trust to buying online and there's only one mail order dealer I'd buy from, in Florida. Currently I own (and play daily) a Seagull Coastline 12 string ... yep, I added the K&K myself, and wow! what a sound!
NEPATelecaster June 10th, 2008, 09:22 PM Although I do LOVE my S6, I have a Entourage Mini Jumbo I bought for $329 USED with Q1 Electronics for $329 that is just incredible!

I may just go with the S6. I'd be interested in finding out who the dealer is you mentioned (I may PM you for the info.)

I have to agree...I have one of Rob's old Cedar Topped S6s that I keep in open D tuning...and it is just something Special !....and this is from a Guy w/ 3 Great Martins.
CatfishStudios June 22nd, 2008, 10:36 AM Love my S6 ... It is full of tone and so easy to play.... These things age like fine wine too..they just get better and better.
Telarkaster June 22nd, 2008, 01:03 PM I have a Seagull Performer Mini Jumbo cutaway with QII electronics. I didn't compare to the S6 (or if I did I don't remember). I picked it because of its sound (acoustic and plugged in) and neck, and I wanted something with a mic and saddle pickup.
Compare the electronic systems between the two that you are looking at.
Jakedog June 27th, 2008, 11:36 AM I have the S6+ Performer GT Cutaway. My partner plays an S6. if you do not need a cutaway, and built in electronics, go for the S6 and save the dough. Except for the finish, and the pickup system, there really isn't a difference. Grab the S6 and don't look back.
Off the subject slightly: My partner and I just got back from making a new record. The producer has been around the block many times, (he's played on, or produced a couple of dozen gold and platinum records) and really knows his stuff. I used my custom Harper Studio Jumbo for all of my rythym tracks, and my S6+ for all of my lead work. My partner only brought his S6, and used it for everything. These guitars record incredibly well. Our producer was knocked out by the sounds we were able to get to tape (er... hardrive) with sub 1K acoustics. He kept picking mine up and playing it in the control room. These are GREAT guitars for the price.
teleftcaster June 30th, 2008, 12:38 PM I went ahead with the good ole regular S6. Been playing it for a couple of weeks now and love it! Great build quality, great playability, great tone. I went ahead and put in a K&K pure western mini as Rob suggested. Looking forward to trying it soon. Thanks again for the input.
Telarkaster June 30th, 2008, 07:08 PM Congrats! Let us know how the KK goes, I've heard nothing but good things about that pickup.
NEPATelecaster July 2nd, 2008, 07:15 AM Anyone notice the girl (well-24 yrs. old) singing on America's Got Talent last nite playing an S6 Cutaway?
redcurtis July 21st, 2008, 02:57 PM I've had an S6 since 1994. Been beating the crap out of it ever since. When I use it 'live', I put a dean markley sound hole pickup in, and it does the trick...better for a 'party guitar' though.
usually "everything" is for sale, I will not sell my S6.
