Rattling tuner

My JazzBass copy has got one tuner (the G one) that rattles.

It rattles and buzzes so bad that it comes through on the amp. It is unplayable in this state.
The blade of the tuner seems to be loose on the shaft. I can't really see how it's connected and I am at a loss as how to fix it. Squeezing the shaft with a pair of pliers doesn't do the trick.
Does anyone here know how to tackle this?

Its usually the "elephant ear" that is the culprit for rattling on the old Fender style tuners.
If this is the case, a tiny drop of solder or superglue were it joins the shaft should do the trick.

The strings are old, but I am positive it is the tuner. When I play it and hold the tuner firmly, the rattling is gone. Furthermore, you can feel it is loose, it can be moved.

I'll try that superglue trick...

I had the same problem and the same symptoms. I discovered that the metal sleeve that fits into the hole in the headstock was the culprit - it was loose fitting and rattled when I played certain notes. When I held the tuner it stopped. I took the tuner apart, wrapped some teflon tape around the outside of the sleeve to tighten up the fit, stuck the sleeve back in the hole, reassambled the tuner and the rattle was gone.
