spacey February 20th, 2009, 08:16 PM After what I guess is approx 300 hours of playing my CV , I still think the only mod for them is a 4 way switch and a set of DR pure blues. The series position in open G sounds incredible. Now for an affordable CV Squier amp. Robb
check out a super champ xd .... if your looking for a smaller amp.
(there're videos on youtube w/c.v.'s) i'm real happy with both.
baumbert May 4th, 2009, 09:21 PM Hi from Germany everybody,
I'm new to the board and think that this is a nice and helpfull part of the web - thanks to whoever runs it and to the ones who make it live! I've been reading through big parts of this thread and remain with some questions. I plan to buy a Tele, and since this is my first "propper" electric guitar, it should be as good as possible for the budget I have.
The Classic Vibe seems perfekt - I want one!
What I did not found in this thread, or in general,is the influence of the weight to the sound - is it better to buy the heavier or the lighter one if I could chose.I don't know if I will be able to decide this in the shop on my own, so is this a question of personal taste or are there any advantages in either. What else should and can I check, given that I'm a blody beginner? Excuse my lousy english and thanks
rowdy27 May 4th, 2009, 09:33 PM Dig this!

I slipped a Fender Custom Shop pickup into the bridge position & moved the controls around.
This thing has the slickest neck I ever played & is my Slide guitar mostly.
Some kids never grow-up!
Televised May 4th, 2009, 09:35 PM ...light just got lighter!
How does the sound of Pine compare with Alder? If a Pine Tele fell in the woods and no one was there to hear.....would it make a sound?....and what would be the best amp for it?

Hi there...I'm new to Teles but not guitars in general, got a CV a few weeks ago and have been really enjoying it.
I think the general belief is that lighter weight is maybe better sounding, and more comfortable - but then again you'll find plenty of people who say it makes no difference, and even prefer heavier guitars. I think you would be correct to say it's personal preference.
There is lots of information here about every aspect of Teles you can imagine, so do a lot of searching and read a lot of threads.
If you're an absoulte beginner I'd try to bring a friend who plays guitar or even a guitar teacher along with you when you're out shopping...good luck!
PJ May 4th, 2009, 10:11 PM Baumbert....your English is a lot better than my German! You know, it all depends on how many Deutsch Marks you have in the budget. The CV is a great guitar. I have quite a few Teles - US & Mex made, but the CV is one of those freaks of nature that just came together with all the right parts and craftsmanship to be a great guitar. You certainly can't go wrong with a CV. That being said, you could also check into a couple of the other models (that I also have a few of) 50s Classics, Nashvilles, 60s Classics, Muddy Waters Signature - there are many very nice Tele models. But, a CV is a great place to start. My guess is - you won't have just one Tele for long.

Welcome to the TDPRI!
redstringuitar May 5th, 2009, 02:37 AM They're on sale over here too http://www.soundslive.co.uk/product.asp?id=9326
Thats really cheap for such a sweet looking thing, not too sure about the sonic qualities of pine though, might start pining for alder...
Those new alnico pups are good, tried a Squire Strat recently and it sounded great!

The sale ad is a little confusing. They have a heading that says...
Specifications of the Squier Classic Vibe Stratocater 60s:
Model Name: Classic Vibe Telecaster 50's...
But no matter what they call it, it's a great Tele!!!!
fernando May 6th, 2009, 11:00 AM PJ, your CV Tele looks gorgeous with the white pkgd!
Jassibi May 6th, 2009, 02:19 PM I just got to try a CV50 and really blown away by the neck. I've been looking at MIM standards but have to say the neck feels much nicer on the CV50. Only thing is that, as a jazz type player I found the neck pickup a bit low output and difficult to "warm up" with the tone control. I think the pickups on the MIM standards are hotter which gives a stronger tone on the neck with the tone rolled off. The example I tried did have the neck pickup positioned quite low in the body however. Conversely, I do find the MIM bridge pickup (and the setting with both pickups on) a bit much and slightly harsh - whereas the CV50 seems better in this respect.
Anybody else have the same experience? I'm actually pretty much sold on the CV50 anyway on the neck alone, thinking that I can drop a more suitable pickup in the neck if I find I need to. Any ideas on getting a warm jazz tone out of the CV50?
Rubber Ducky May 28th, 2009, 02:07 PM Hi, 1st post!
I was looking for an inexpensive pine body tele and found out about these on this forum.
I got one of these bad boys on Saturday.
Anyone else not like the modern C neck on these? It's actually painful for me.
It does sound fantastic.
PJ May 28th, 2009, 08:33 PM Well....ever since I bought my first Tele in 1970, I've been partial to blondes with white pickguards. Here are both.

kiefe-caster May 29th, 2009, 06:21 AM Hey, i got my new Squier Classic Vibe, very very pleased  But my other Tele is complaining about getting no attention
Well..... here it is !
Rubber Ducky May 29th, 2009, 10:42 AM I guess everyone else loves the modern C neck profile?
I reshaped mine to a soft v, and now it's really really comfortable.
guitargeezer June 7th, 2009, 08:53 PM No, you're not the only one not in love with the modern "C", but I sure love everything else about the CV Tele. My favorite neck on the current crop is the Baja Tele, but Fender has priced them out of my price range so...until I win the lottery or Fender comes to it's senses, the Cv Tele will do nicely.
Although I've got a four-way switch waiting for its rightful home...

oh isnt that statement true. I got my CV in January. My 5th Tele is on the way right now.
PMan June 23rd, 2009, 02:26 PM Well shoot, I have been putting off getting one of these to see if they'd release some additional colors like the CV Strats. I like the color they have, but would prefer a blue or red.
Now of course some guy on Craigslist is selling a Hwy1 for $550, and causing me more indecisiveness.
Anyone hear anything about any additional colors being released any time soon?
Also, this is my first post here, but I have been reading many threads. Great forum!
telechaser June 23rd, 2009, 11:29 PM I finally got the chance to check this thing out. It felt really nice when I first held it. The neck is really nice. It has that 'play me' vibe. I'm currently putting together a Thinline so buying another Tele is out of the question.
However, there is a CV listed on eBay here in Australia and it does cause a bit of dilemna. If the neck of the CV is a little bit thicker, I would have jumped on it. Probably a good thing. It's a very nice piece of gear though.
dayamdave June 24th, 2009, 02:24 AM Darn this thread... I just bought a butterscotch affinity tele today at GC.... saw this thread and I ordered this Classic Vibe 50's tele 2 minutes ago lol. Can't wait! Just wondering if I should keep the butterscotch or bring it back...

get both then make your choice.
dayamdave June 24th, 2009, 10:55 AM I'll have both... I have the butterscotch right now... the CV50 is coming
rockape June 24th, 2009, 07:28 PM Hi everyone,
I have been a hardened Strat fan for a very long time, and I own three Squier CV Strats, but I heard so much great stuff about the Telecaster model that I had to have one, and yesterday it arrived!.... :)
Well, What a guitar!!! The quality is truly amazing (as expected), and it sounds great, but the main point of my post is......I finally get it! I now completely understand why you guys love these guitars so much. In fact this Tele could end up being my favourite guitar.....seriously!.... I have seen the light!
Got to get a white pickguard for it though.

PMan June 24th, 2009, 10:53 PM Well, now I've gota new dilemma. Finally played a CV. Actually, I had gone into Sam Ash to try a Hwy1 to see if I'd like it, and between the two, I've got to say I really like the CV, especially the neck.
The dilemma comes in because I had originally intended on having the local guitar shop order one in to throw some cash their way. But now I'm stuck because I like the one at Sam Ash, so who knows if the one the local joint gets would not be as good. Then again, I have no basis for comparison, so maybe the Sam Ash one was sub-par. Ugh.
PJ June 25th, 2009, 06:19 AM My guess is that Fender will move other models to China, from Mexico. Maybe the "CV Project" had something to do with seeing how good a Chinese guitar they could make. Sure wouldn't surprise me to see other Fender models made there. If they have trouble (as it seems) getting huge price hikes out of the current production models, the next move would be take that cut out of the cost. Just a guess.
fenson June 27th, 2009, 12:53 AM Hi I got one today very nice guitar serial # CGS0801071 . Setuop out of the box was great all feels good and solid on her , sounds and plays very well
Raging Bass June 29th, 2009, 08:13 PM From the pics I've been seing of the CVs (teles), some of them are really white and some are kind of blonde...er.
Is it just from the pics or do the colours really change from guitar to guitar that much? I would like a CV Tele but I don't like them really too white. I'd prefer if it was blonde (yes, I know that the colour is suposed to be "vintage blonde" but it looks too white for me).
JayDee June 29th, 2009, 09:53 PM Mine is not white.
Alamo June 29th, 2009, 09:57 PM Check out the pics where a white pickguard was slapped on - there you see how off white they are.
dleuen June 29th, 2009, 10:10 PM I've seen very few, if any pictures that capture the true color of the CV tele. I was shocked (pleasantly) when I first saw mine. Almost all photos on the web make it look way more white than it really is.
dayamdave June 29th, 2009, 10:12 PM Just got my cv50 and I love it! As for the white, it's definitely off white with a hint of wood grain underneath, its a really beautiful guitar for the price.
Raging Bass June 30th, 2009, 08:06 AM Thanks for the replies.
It's good to know that it is off-white. As for the whiteguard, I have here one that I've taken from a black 50s tele (replaced it with a anodized gold one) and I think I will place it on the CV tele, when I get my hands on one.
MWAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHHAHAH Classic vibe tele MWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH. Ok, that's enough of that.
Mr Wright July 20th, 2009, 02:59 PM I just purchased a Squire Classic Vibe Trans Blonde pine body Humbucker routed neck position. I'm going to make a partscaster with a Lollar low wind imperial in the neck and a 52 in the bridge. Allparts Fat neck, Glendale plate and saddles etc etc.. Hopefully it will rock.
Oldschoolwax July 20th, 2009, 04:25 PM I have 3, they are three different shades of off white! It seems the nicer the grain the less they put on of the white transparent, The one piece body is very blond the other one I think may be one piece is a tad whiter, and the no doubt 3 piece ( and 7 pounder! ) is the whitest of them all and they covered the grain almost completely on the end by the strap button, but the grain shows through the front and back, good matching, just the end must have looked a bit funky. It's still yellowish though.
Mr Wright July 20th, 2009, 10:28 PM The body I found on ebay has all the wood grain showing very tranparent. It looks a lot like a real nice ash grain.

Two of mine are like that too! Those are the ones they shot super light!
Mr Wright July 21st, 2009, 01:21 AM I'm putting Lollars in it. (Allparts Lindy Fralin model neck (they Rock) Glendale bridge and saddles. It is my first and only Pine body guitar. I'll go all out and hope for the best.

fernando July 21st, 2009, 01:21 PM It looks gorgeous Mr Wright !!!
Mr Wright July 21st, 2009, 04:50 PM Thanks, I hope the build turns out as good as I want it to. It will be costly but I have a knack for spending lots of money on guitars. I just can't seem to stop!

That's not a CV body. There's a micro tilt adjustment in the neck pocket, CV Teles don't have that. Also the body IS ash and the finish is too opaque for a CV Tele. It's not a Baja Body either.
Here's a CV body pic:

Mr Wright July 22nd, 2009, 12:06 PM Interesting I thought it looked like ash but I have seen some pine that looked the same? Oh well I shall see when I get it. Any clues what you think it came from if not a CV?
Mr Wright July 22nd, 2009, 12:09 PM I was told the tilt was just an upgrade that was added by the seller?
Mr Wright July 22nd, 2009, 12:50 PM This is the caption from the seller's page: Here is a genuine Fender squier telecaster body. It is the new Vintage vibe series body. These are a very special body with a very resonant tone due to the pine body. Leo first built the telecaster from pine wood in the 50s. The finish is really exceptional on this body, it looks like ash. It is routed for a humbucker in the neck if you decide you would like to get the Keith Richards tone going. It is complete with a tilt neck adjuster upgrade and a Fender bakelite pickguard from a Baja telecaster. All fender necks will fit this. Grab this body and change your tone and your look all at the same time, or build your first custom. Its also complete with a mounted jack socket, pickup shielding, and grounding. Need help with installs ? Got questions ? Please read all my terms below. Ask any and all questions before placing your bid or making your purchase.
more_magic July 22nd, 2009, 01:06 PM Hello everybody, I'm a proud owner of a CV tele. I play left handed, though, so it's strung upside down. The controls kind of get in the way, so I want to get an ashtray to rest my hand on. Can someone point me to the right one to get? Does the standard Fender ashtray bridge cover (http://accessories.musiciansfriend.com/product/Fender-Replacement-Vintage-Tele-Bridge-Cover?sku=361384) work, despite just saying it's for Mexican and American models?
TIA!

Well with the seller's caption, it makes sense. it is a CV.
congrats to the Classic Vibe body with jack-cup already installed.
I don't know what to think of the micro tilt - I don't need one, but hey, why not.

Welcome to the TDPRI, more_magic.
yes, that's the right one in your link. should fit perfectly.
Mr Wright July 23rd, 2009, 01:40 PM Thanks for the reply. It looked so much like ash I just wanted some verification from a fellow Tele/CV player. the neck pocket with the two little indentations is what kept me believing it was a pine CV body. I don't know if there are other neck pockets that look like that?
kevinpaul April 4th, 2010, 12:28 AM How cool is that a Pine Squire!! Gonna have to splurge. Pine is cool, cheap as hell and it will plug up your fire place when you burn it. China has pine trees?

I have played the 50's Classic Vibe, The CV Thinline, and some other models in the store. I bought the 50's one and intend to keep it stock.
It has a nice springy, woody acoustic tone when unplugged.
The tone is a totally country twang in the bridge position, while the mid position is kinda "Open" and woody, reminiscent of Mark Knopfler's tone in his live versions of "Walk of life". The neck position is warm but not too wooly.. I see a lot of guys don't like it too much, but it beats a lot of other more expensive Tele's I have owned. Maybe after the honeymoon I may change my mind, but I doubt it. I intend to gig this guitar a lot and am sure it won't let me down on any front. I have forked out more than double the CV's price on guitars in the past and come out with less. This guitar is a winner..
PS. Let's not forget that when Leo first built the Broadcaster/Esquire he had this in mind:- An affordable, good sounding, reliable guitar.. Sounds a bit like a Squier, don't you think?
chokerjoker4 December 29th, 2010, 07:26 PM for anyone in Europe who wants this, this is the cheapest palce you'll get it, ill be getting mine pretty soon ! :P its relaible bought things of there many times before :) http://www.thomann.de/dk/fender_squier_classic_vibe_tele_50s.htm

All the my playing time goes for my MIM Classic 50's.
The only think that kept me from selling it before was the tone from the bridge pickup. Really great. But I still like the MIM better so there was no need to keep both.

I have only just found this forum. I have one Tele, a Squier Classic Vibe Tele 50s, bought in 2008, so this seems to be a good topic in which to say hello. It sounds better through my Boogie than the Vox practice amp in the photo but I am guessing it would sound even better through a Fender tube amp. Any recommendations as to which one?
Rod Parsons June 3rd, 2011, 07:32 PM #1 Deluxe Reverb... [original or reissue].
Pizzaman January 8th, 2012, 04:28 AM Thanks Rod. I took my time but am now really happy with a rather expensive, handwired Fender '57 Deluxe reissue.

birstallblue January 20th, 2013, 05:24 AM i got mine a few weeks back and instantly fell in love with it, if i can only persaude the missus to sleep in the spare bedroom, then i can sleep next to the pro tone squier instead.
