Was high action and large box, kind of hard to play. Sure wish I still had that thing, hang on to that, is a valued piece. Congrats on a very special grandfather! Rizo June 22nd, 2008, 07:39 PM I had a great aunt and uncle who owned a music store in the 60's. They sold records and a instruments. I know they carried Harmonys and Kays and such, not sure if they carried anything higher end. I keep waiting to find a garage or barn full of their unsold merchandise but sadly.... nothing yet. Nice guitar! My buddy has a Silvertone that looks almost identical and he uses it to play old time music with me and another guy. It's definitely a cool tone. Enjoy it! mcgannahan June 22nd, 2008, 09:35 PM Nice looking Kay! I really dig these old archtops. My friend has a 30's hog Kay that is absolutely sweet, and holds up quite well to good flatpicking. ASC67 July 16th, 2008, 11:58 PM Here is my 37' Kay, all solid Mahogany with a red spruce top. This is the one that mcgannahan was refering too. http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k115/asc67/Img_0342.jpg (http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k115/asc67/Img_0342.jpg) http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k115/asc67/Img_0344.jpg (http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k115/asc67/Img_0344.jpg) http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k115/asc67/Img_0343.jpg (http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k115/asc67/Img_0343.jpg) ASC67 July 17th, 2008, 12:02 AM It came with the original case and warranty card. http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k115/asc67/Img_0334.jpg http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k115/asc67/Img_0335.jpg http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k115/asc67/Img_0337.jpg RodeoTex July 17th, 2008, 12:28 AM I think I have the unborn version of your guitar. I bought this on ebay a few years ago. It is NOS from the Harmony/Kay/Whatever factory in Chicago. Supposed to be made in the 1960s. There were several for sale at the time. They were supposedly bought from the defunct company and I have no reason to doubt it. I have been wondering what to do with it. I was thinking about maybe a 'cowboy' guitar. Iffin you don't mind I may copy the headstock shape of yours when I finally get around to making the neck. QUESTION: What is the scale length? My body seems to work out well for a 25". http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff18/rodeointexas/ArchTake1.jpg?t=1216272311 ASC67 July 17th, 2008, 07:35 AM The scale length is just under 25.75". Good luck with your project !!! zombywoof July 17th, 2008, 07:01 PM Old Kays are just plain cool. One that has a family history - even cooler. And yup, I also got me one - a 1930s Kay Deluxe "Venetian" built right after they dropped the Stromberg moniker. http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g5/zombywoof51/TRICCASE005.jpg http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g5/zombywoof51/closeupkaycraftguitar.jpg ASC67 July 19th, 2008, 05:06 PM Here is another old Kay that I used to own. http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k115/asc67/IMG_0302-1.jpg Squier Esquire September 18th, 2008, 11:58 PM It came with the original case and warranty card. http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k115/asc67/Img_0334.jpg http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k115/asc67/Img_0335.jpg http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k115/asc67/Img_0337.jpg thats awesome.
