Diminished Bass Line - the Poor Side

I've been working on Poor Side of Town, trying to color the Maj7th chords.

I'm doing it in CMaj7.

Any suggestions to make the bass line a little more juicy than here?

Nice pick, Robbysturgis. I remember Jack de Keyzer featuring that in his act fifteen years ago. Its change of pace makes it a good end-of-set song, or 2nd from the end.

The stuff the bass on the clip was doing sounded pretty good to me, like maj. VII, V, III after a nice solid I. Thing was, that song can benefit from being played faster and more aggressively, IMO, than the mature J Rivers version we see here.

And a faster pace would (ultimately?) lead a bass player to keep it simpler anyway?
