That's very beautiful.

What is the story on the headstock art? Is it something that you drew or designed? Is there a story behind it?

I play mainly Martins. I have several martins and one each Larrivee and Taylor.

There is an amazing store in Madison WI called Madison Music. I was at Madison Music shopping Martins and the shop keeper asked me if I would like to go in the high end room and play a few Collins and Huss and Dalton guitars. This is the sort of shop where Martin and Taylor are not even considered high end. I told him that they were way out of my budget and the gentleman insisted.

He handed me a few Collins and Huss and Daltons and my hands were shaking. They are so beautiful to hold and play. It's the only time that I played a Collins or Huss and Dalton.

That's a very special guitar that you have there.

Congratulations.

What's the story behind the headstock shell art??

The headstock inlay was one I saw at:

http://www.luthiersupply.com/

and had my luthier purchase and install it. We added the stars and planets to the "Nude with Moon Disc" as soon as I saw it on the site I just knew I had to have it...dont know why for sure..just kind of spoke to me..The rest of the inlays follow a kind of Celtic theme. This is my fourth
Collins and I must say well woth the wait and every penny!
I still grin from ear to ear everytime I play it. I have known Mr. Collins since childhood and played in groups with him years ago. Nice fellow, great builder.

That is extremely HOT!! Good on you, that is an incredible example of the luthiers art. Not too much bling...just right.

I'm jealous, as I'm sure it sounds as good as it looks. Tell me more about the "african hog back". Sounds more like the main course at your memorial day cook out...

Well RickG501, first I had picked out this set of ribben Mahogany for the sides and back, wich were very nice as well. Then I got a call from the builder whos shop is about ten minutes from my house telling me he just got some highly figured African Mahogany sets in and if I wanted I could have first pick. But I had to get there right away...no problem!!haha it was woth it to end up with this:

The dark lines are just a little Naptha we put on so as to see the grain a little better.

That's some pretty wood. What kind of tone does the Hog give you. Is it warm like a rose wood or crisp like mahogany? Or super crisp like a maple or koa?

What a beauty! The inlay work is stunning, especially on the head stock. Great designing there, Mr. Steel!
