Are they that much lighter than the stock tuners on my Epiphone Casady bass would be? Light enough to relieve some of the neck dive? It's not real bad but enough to be a distraction when not holding the neck... Thanks!

Tom

According to the stew-mac website the Hipshots are 1.8 ounces each. That is a little over half of the 3.5 ounces that the schaller type tuner weighs. Four tuners would save 6.8 ounces total. I would think that would help with the neck dive.

Hey Stubbs,
Thanks for the info (didn't realize it was listed on Stewmac's site)!! Yep, sounds like it would make a difference especially considering the weight is at the end of a 20" or so lever arm, AKA the neck! Thanks again, will be ordering up a set...
Best,
Tom

Yep. Hipshot's are the best option I know as a cure for neck dive. I get 'em from www.wymoreguitars.com He's fast and very competitive price wise. Great guy too. If you're looking for a good source for Hipshots I can easily recommend him.

or..............maybe moving the location of the strap button(s) to adjust for the balance point.
might be easier........
Unless your tuners need replacing anyway.

Hey tomkatf, I feel your pain. I sold my beloved JC due to the dive factor. The big culprit is the strap pin location.
You can relocate the pin to the top horn, but it's best to internally reinforce the fragile horn area first. It's a tricky PITA, but it can be done.
As for the Hipshots, as I recall, the model shown on the Stewmac site is not the one for the JC. Contact John Wymore for the exact model and its weight. Like 4mal said, wymoreguitars is THE best.
The stock JC tuners are kinda flimsy to begin with, so the weight saved by investing in Hipshots may not help the neck-dive very much. If you have a postal scale, weigh a stock tuner to know for sure. Regardless, the Hipshots would be a very nice upgrade on a JC.
Good luck.
