The title says it all...almost...the setting with the compression "off" is preferred (knob pulled out on this vintage of the blue box).
My buddy and I both like the clean drive achievable on the Fulltone Fulldrive 2, but it's a big box, and it'd be nice to find something with a smaller box.
If I didn't need the extra gain stage, does Fulltone make a clean drive?
Alternatives that others have tried? I saw a Guyatone in the new Vintage Guitar that looks like a neat clean drive, also the Seymour Duncan Pickup Booster, BBE Boosta Grande, Klon Centaur.
Tell me what you can about one that fits in a small MXR-type enclosure.
Thanks!

A smaller direct boost without eq is the ZVex Super Hard On. Plain clean boost (I believe something like 60 dB used to be claimed, but their web site does not mention it now). Lots of clean boost, that will overdrive your amp.
A lot of guys here like the RGW Bad Bob boost. Less money than the ZVex, but I have not used. According to the one web site I looked at (if memory serves, the analog mike web site) the Bad Bob is very slightly colored and not perfectly clean.
Another small boost pedal that folks seem to like is the Xotic RC Booster. It has been a while since I used one, but my recollection is it is a little more colored sound than the ZVx, but then it also has eq section if that is of interest.
I find my FD2 is a little colored on the "boost" function, so maybe the Bad Bob would be the price point leader, as it is the least expensive of the three I mentioned. All 3 are less than 1/2 the size of the FD2, but then the FD 2 does give two sounds in one box.

I haven't found a clean boost yet that sounds as good as comp-cut mode on the FD2. I've had:
RC Booster
Fatboost 1
Fatboost 2
Lizard leg Flying Dragon
...you would THINK that the Fatboosts, being Fulltone, would be similar. I don't think so. If I were to buy another clean boost (which is doubtful... I just use the FD2, since I use it's other 2 "drive" modes anyways), I would get a Bad Bob. The Catalinbread stuff looks cool also.

I have one of these that I took off my board. It's a great boost pedal, but I'm using two TS-9's instead. If you're interested, et me know. I'd be willing to part with it.

I just grabbed another early Fulltone II with flat mids and the push/pull comp cut knob. Something about the early ones that are a little less hifi sounding {to my ears} over the newer ones; although the newer ones have better clarity in the flat mids mode. I think these pedals are exactly the right frequency for guitar and, the although the pedal is large, utilizing the knobs extends an incredible range of tone shaping possibilities, especially noteworthy in an band ensemble. These pedals are fantastic buys, especially the “previously owned” ones, and have been on many pro players boards both past and present. The Fulldrive in comp-cut mode is very nice for those channeling the Texas bluesman! Me likey.
