Tim Wallis April 14th, 2008, 05:54 PM I made up a prototype A bender for my geetar. I also put a string drop on my A string. So, 2 A bends. I'm using the A Bender more for expression than bender. I'm not likin' how I activate it, but I have some ideas for another one.

EZchair Picker April 14th, 2008, 09:41 PM Wow! That was unbelievably smooth and sweet!
Now that I've picked my jaw off the floor.....can I ask why you used the drop tuner at the tuning key? Does it give some advantage in making chord voicings when bending the A?

THANKS!
I have 2 ways to bend the A on that guitar. I put an A bender on the bridge that I'm activating it with my thumb on my right hand. It's not very practical, but I'm working on another style of an A bender.
There's a couple of licks I wanted to use on that tune where I needed the A to stay bent up a whole step so I put one of my string drops on the A string.
I like the sound of an A Bender. IMO bending the A, G and B really opens you up for some awesome chops and chords to play. The A bent,,, gives a real Pedal Steel Guitar sound to chord voicing.
I have a design for a stringbender unit that would use mine, hipshot and tremorbender all together. I don't know if they'd be too crazy about it lol.

EZchair Picker April 15th, 2008, 10:18 AM Way cool!
So if I understand it right, did you tune the A string up a whole step and used the tuner to drop it down?

The A string is still tuned to A. I used the string drop to bring it up a whole step. The song is in the key of G, so with the A brought up to B it gives you a G chord. The String Drop holds the note and the A bender on the bridge is used basically for expression only.
The trick to playing that song was timing out when to use the String Drops and being able to use open strings while bending them with the bridge benders to have time to realease the String Drops. It was a VERY fun song to figure out!
I'm currently working on a song that I have a String Drop on every string and use different tunings while playing the song. I also want to put a D bender on my guitar as well.
Thanks again,
tim

Flat Rat May 10th, 2008, 06:14 PM Very, very tasty! You have a great feel for bendin those geetar strangs!!!!
Wardpike May 12th, 2008, 06:51 AM Tim, this is brilliant work. It looks like you're a contortionist with the guitar there, and there's so much coordination necessary for keeping control of bending, how many strings>? 4 or 5? Madness!
Very inspiring!
Durtdog May 12th, 2008, 08:06 AM Dood, that was terrible.
Post another one!
Terrific as usual, Tim.
