Just wondering .......... i'm kinda half thinking my playing life isn't complete until i get me a baritone, so, i'm thinking of a self build but was wondering two things :-

What would the string guages be for 'A' to 'A' ?

would the machines have to be drilled out to take the thickness ?

Any thoughts ..................

I doubt it. I had a Gretsch double neck with a bass VI on top and it used standard guitar tuners w/ a low E string of about a .090 or .095. Didn't the Fender Bass VI use the regular Klusons as well?

I think if you stay with Gotoh 'klusons', they'll be able to handle the load.

Makes sure the central hole at the split shaft will fit a string that large in diameter. Just looking, I'm wondering if .080 might be the limit on the Gotoh hole. The Ping has a bigger central downhole, but that machine head isn't tough enough to handle the strain, IMO. And the '69-'72 reissue style with the trapezoidal body is out 1) Ain't strong enough and 2) the central downhole might take a .052 and that's about it.

You could always load the string across the shaft and not down the hole, I would suppose.

Big John...I had a Dano Baritone awhile back tuned A to A and these gauges worked well for me .072 .060 .048 .030w .020p .016p

Maybe i'll buy a .72 guage and see what fits.
