Awesome bluesy tele tone in this clip of NJ local legend Sonny Kenn. His solo's fairly short in this tune, but great tone, starting at 4:25. Nice bluesy bite, but very full sounding and no ice pick. Holds up real well against the Les Paul the other guy's playing. Any idea what kind of pups these might be?

Hey, I know Sonny, & he made his own guitar...Strat body, Jazzmaster pups & a hole in the upper horn for his slide. He only uses a "drop D" tuning for slide.

Hey man thanks for the reply! I was beginning to think this post had been forgotten. I've seen pictures of the strat you're talking about, and it's a pretty cool axe. In this clip though, I'm sure it's a tele. There's another clip on youtube from the same gig, and he's playing a red tele with a white pickguard, white strap, and some weird thing on the upper strap knob. And it looks exactly like this one, though in that clip above all you see is part of the back of it. It looks like an American Standard model, but I have no idea what kind of pups are in it. If you see him from time to time, I'd really appreciate it if you could ask him! The other clip of his tele is here. In this one it sounds like he's playing mostly the neck pickup.
