ext cab for champ & 1/2 watter

Hi. I have 2 small amps a Fender Champ and a little 1/2 watt puppy. These days i am getting ready to do some solo & duo shows in a very quiet intimate setting where i have to play electric, very quietly, at conversational levels or just above or below and am looking for a low noise solution for those settings. I am hoping that the 1/2 will do it.

But now i need an extension cab and i was thinking i should get one that works with the 1/2 watter and the champ. The 1/2 Watt will take a 4 or 8 ohm speaker and the champ a 4 ohm. So i am guessing that the best bet is to get a 4 ohm. (side question, if an amp can take a 4 or 8 ohm speaker, what would be the difference, typically, which gives you the best headroom and vol?)

So where is a good place to get a nice cab and speaker at a fair price, and ready to roll?

I am thinking to get a 10 or 12 inch 4 (or 8?) ohm speaker, nice quality and a pretty nice sturdy wood cab.

Any advice?

ps. i know 90% will say, buy a speaker and build the cab yourself. But that isn't an option for me. I live in an apt and have 0 tools and 0 wood working skills, and not a whole heck of a lot of free time. Someday i'll make my own amp from a kit, but now is not the time.

Here's a couple that sell loaded cabinets:

Lopoline makes some nice cabinets, and they have very good prices; sometimes, it's less expensive to buy a cabinet & bolt a speaker in it yourself:

Jensen Neo & MOD speakers are available in 4 ohm, in both the 10" & 12" sizes. Both sound good, but I've become a big fan of the Neo's. I ran a 10" Jensen MOD in my SF Champ, and gigged with it a couple of times; it sounded great, but I always wished I'd had a larger cab built for it with a 12" or 15". I get my Jensens from AES: www.tubesandmore.com

I use an Avatar 1x12 with my ZVex NanoAmp, and it's a great sounding cab. It's not 4 ohms though, although as I recall they'll put whatever you want in there. I've also used the 1x10 in my Mesa Subway amps with the NanoAmp, it's also good, but much less depth than the deep Avatar cab.

I have an Italian Jensen in my Champ now. Great speaker. I love it. but it is still a small speaker in a small cab.

The only reason i am thinking of 4 ohms is cause then i can use it with both the 1/2 watter and the champ...

Neo's are the light weight speakers right?

Too bad you're not living in Europe.
thomann just came out with this:

A 12" cab for 55 Euro. It's a steal even if the speaker is crap (I don't know).

Yes, the Neo's have the lightweight magnet... They sound great.

I agree with you, the cab size of the Champ is always going to be the limiting factor. The times I gigged with mine, I used an HBE PowerScreamer for "more" & mic'd it; it was loud, but I really missed the "thump" of a bigger cab/speaker.
