something i noticed during playing:

the tone controls on my 3 single coil stevie ray vaughan signature strat donīt work so prominently when i play through the hi gain settings of my vox ad15vt.(the difference in the sound isnīt really noticeable)
when i plug my les paul in the difference of rolling off the highs( tone at 0) or leavin it all the way up(tone at 10) is much more prominent/profound.
basically when i turn on the tone knobs of my strat nothing really happens to the sound and when i play through a cleanish amp(like ma twin reverb) the tone controls seem to work better!

anyone else noticed that?
havenīt had my strat and the amp for too long so excuse if this is sumthin normal with single coils

Hadn't noticed that phenomenon before since I'm not that much of a fan of high gain, but it was apparent with the Greasebucket tone controls on my Highway One. Those pickups and tone controls are meant to be gain friendly but the tone controls don't do that much when the gain is turned up - especially the first tone knob used in switch positions 4 & 5. If I'm not mistaken, the tone control does not affect the bridge pickup on many Strats.

The interaction between a drastically rolled off tone and overdriven amp is actually the basis of Clapton's woman tone; neck pup, tone rolled all the way down and everything on 10 (11?) on the amp, high frequency content is then 100% pure naturally sweet overdriven tube juice. Roll back you amp in clean territory and all you get is some muffled nonsence.
