ok im having a guy do a wire harness job for me and told him i was thinking about the deaf eddie 5 tone mod and asked him for any other 5 tone mods he knew of. he responded, "what I have also done by request is make both series settings in phase but add a .01mfd cap on one of the series settings. It doesn't get really nasally or week. But it still has a really Vocal/Wah type of tone to it". so my question is, would having another in series setting(.01 cap) be very similar to the other in series setting and defeat the purpose of having 5 unique sounds or would it be distinctly different. if it is distinctly different could anyone describe to the best of their abilities the differences. your opinions on the two mods and any other suggestions are appreciated.

I've heard of adding the cap on the series/out of phase setting to "goose" it back up a little fatter, but I haven't done it myself, because I like the sting that combo gets - it's fatter than parallel/out of phase, anyway. I've thought about trying that (adding the cap) for a long time, but, heck, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I like the tone as-is, but I do realize that we all have different tastes in tone.

MY BSET GUESS is that adding the cap to a series (in phase) setting would tame the output a bit, and probably reduce the bass response of the combo. Common sense tells me that makes it LESS distinct than the regular series combo - but I haven't heard it myself, though.
