ajgus March 25th, 2008, 02:05 PM I have a Squire body that I plan to use in a project. I want to replace the pickguard. The problem is that in my younger days I never thought about preserving things like serial #'s. So I have no idea what kind of Strat it is. Can someone please identify this guitar for me? I also need to know where, if anywhere I can find a replacment guard.I will post pictures of the body later, but in the mean time here are some particulars about the guitar in its original form:
-Humbucker in the bridge
-Floyd Rose II Trem
-Locking Nut
-(1) Volume & (1) Tone
-Rosewood 22 fret Board
-Gloss Maple Neck w/ Skunk Stripe
-All Black, including Black Hardware & a Black painted Headstock
Thanks for your help!!!
Axis29 March 25th, 2008, 07:14 PM Does it say anything on the headstock? front and or back...
pchilson March 25th, 2008, 08:32 PM How long have you had it? Are you the original owner?
ajgus March 25th, 2008, 08:33 PM Axis,It did. Unfortunately, I sanded & refinished it years ago. And, like I said I didn't know enough about the importance of cataloging things like serial numbers at that age. I believe that it is Korean, but don't quote me on that. It is also, either a '92 or '93. Like I said, I'll post some pics tonight. Also, the back of the body is contoured at the neck pocket. Which is very comfortable for reaching higher frets. Anyone own anything that fits these descriptions? I sure hope you guys might be able to help.
ajgus March 25th, 2008, 08:38 PM pchilson, I am the original owner. I received as a gift from my father when I was about 12 or 13('92-'93). It was actually my first electric. Up till that point, all I had was an old Harmony acoustic from the Sears catalog, cerca 1968-ish. Which I still have, BTW.
Flat357 March 25th, 2008, 08:52 PM The main difference in guards is the screw hole positions and pickup routes .
I would imagine that any guard will fit , and if the screw holes don't match , it's no big deal , as once the guard is on , you cant tell .
If any holes are an issue , just fill them with a match stick .

I totally hear what you are saying. However, what I am looking for is a HSS, Floyd Rose, 2 control knob, White Pickguard. I also am looking to see if there is anyone out there who owns or has owned this guitar. It is actually one of the most comfortable guitars I have ever played. I used the neck on a previous project of mine cause it feels amazing. As for the body, it has some beautiful, slight , natural relicking to it & I'm looking to keep it in my arsenal.
pchilson March 25th, 2008, 09:37 PM Are you certain it is a Squier?
ajgus March 25th, 2008, 09:46 PM Are you certain it is a Squier?
100%. It originally had a black head as I stated earlier. The Squire logo (along w/ the serial number, "Made in..." writing, & "By Fender" writing) was white. I should note, just in case this might help w/ the search, that the Squire logo was an outlined & not filled-in type font. I have never seen this guitar out there & I would be very interested to see if any of you a familiar w/ this guitar. More to the point, I need to find a replacement guard w/ the 2 control configuration. I know I could just add another tone pot, but I like the minimalist vibe that it brings to the project.
ajgus March 25th, 2008, 09:50 PM Also, I've been spelling "Squier" wrong up until now. But, my spell check doesn't recognize it the way Fender spells it. Does anyone know why it is spelled "wrong" on the guitar. Maybe its someone's name..?
ajgus March 25th, 2008, 09:51 PM Sorry.
Flat357 March 25th, 2008, 09:57 PM Aj , ask the guys here to make you one .
There are lots of guys here who do just that .
Mark Davis March 25th, 2008, 10:02 PM If it has 2 knobs and not 3 like most Strats its from the early 80's.
pchilson March 25th, 2008, 10:36 PM If I'm not mistaken some of the Peavey Predators have a SSH config with a volume and one tone. Might just work for you.
Check Pattern # 2774 (http://pickguards.us/pricepeavey.html) here.
ajgus March 25th, 2008, 11:05 PM Flat, I never thought to ask:idea: . I'm not sure how much that would cost, though. I try to keep my budgets as low as possible (out of necessity).
Mark, I bought it new in '93 at a local GC. I guess its possible that it was NOS, but I don't think so.:?:
pchil, I'm not familiar w/ those I'll have to look into it.
Thanks to all of you for the help. Please keep it coming if you have the time!!!
ajgus March 25th, 2008, 11:52 PM Sorry the pictures are crummy.
Here is the body...

These are the only factory markings on the body. A weird "3" or "m" type thing in the neck pocket.

The back of the body...

pchilson March 26th, 2008, 12:01 AM Actually I saw an All Parts strat pickguard with absolutly no cutouts at all hanging on a wall of a shop just today. If you have the means to do your own cutouts that would be an option. You might give them a call.
ajgus March 26th, 2008, 12:05 AM Sorry, these pics did'nt work
ajgus March 26th, 2008, 12:08 AM pchil, I don't have a router or anything like that. I've been meaning to invest in a Dremmel, but I'm not sure if that would do the trick or not...plus, I am not sure that I would be handy enough w/ one to do the required work. I'm much better at playing guitar:cool:
ajgus March 26th, 2008, 12:10 AM ...BTW, the extra holes in these shots are from me testing my pg drilling skills for another build.
pchilson March 26th, 2008, 12:11 AM I get an "Invalid attachment specified" on your links.
I'm out of ideas for you.

Yeah, they're coming up funky on my end too, sorry. I appreciate all of your input, man. Thanks!!!
Axis29 March 26th, 2008, 01:40 PM If it has 2 knobs and not 3 like most Strats its from the early 80's.
Hey Mark,
I had a Photoflame from the 90's that had two knobs... and Floyd Rose with locking nut. Oh, it also had a HSS setup. I never cared for it much after I bought it.
I sold it a few years ago to a bud who I still play with all the time. He loves it,s o I guess it ended up in the right hands in the end.
ajgus March 26th, 2008, 01:50 PM John, When I got it as a kid I was really into metal so the black on black w/ the floyd rose thing was right up my alley. I just want to use the body. I plan on putting a maple neck, vintage tuners & a white guard. As well as a gibson style chrome HB. Do you know where I can find the right pickguard?
ajgus March 26th, 2008, 05:09 PM Just an update on my quest. I've been searching every corner of the internet & have found no mention of my Strat in its original form. However, I found a neck on Ebay off an '85 MIJ that is very similar exept mine had a locking nut...

I feel like I'm reporting a missing person
"Have you seen me?
pchilson March 26th, 2008, 07:13 PM ajgus, call Fender support and tell them what you've told us. Perhaps they will ID your guitar and sell you a pickguard for it.
ajgus March 26th, 2008, 11:28 PM pchilson, that's good advice. I feel as though I've been a pest, but I just really feel this huge curiosity as to why there is no evidence of this guitar ever existing. I know that I can not be the only person ever to own this guitar. I plan on following up on your advice. If worst comes to worst, I will just order something custom from Warmoth or something. Unless someone else knows of of a better source...? Thanks so much for all of the input, gang! I love this little community we have here... I'll keep you you all posted.
