Squire Strat Neck Heavy Flame

I got a neck off eBay [3 years back] which is on my WD Surf Green Strat. It is a MII [Indonesia] Squier Large Headstock Rosewood. I put it on that Strat planing on replacing it when I got a different neck. That was 2 years ago and I am keeping it on there. It has a Satin finish and the walnut stripe, which it does not need with a fretboard of course. ;)

So do all the MIM, MIJ, MI*.* rosewood necks have the walnut stripe?

It also has a great flame going on. has anyone seen these, or a Squier Strat with such a nice neck. Am I wrong to assume it is Squier just because of the MII serial number? The 'Fender' decal was not on it when I got it.

Without going into detail, the guitar [it was from] was from a jerk in HI, Which is why it sez J Paul on it. To me it looks like a Standard Squier Strat decal messed with. Surprised he left the 'C' on the back of the MII serial number.

And apparently it was one of the last necks made by the previous pope.

I seen Squier 51's with nice flamed necks, but its a rarity. I'm guessing that neck is in the same boat.
Unless the previous owner decided to buy a flamed neck and make it look like it was a Squier with a modified logo.

Funny you should say that, I saw this yesterday on ebay.

I am saving up. ;)

Hmmmm....the shape looks wrong for a Squire. I'm not sure what that neck is. I may just be a custom job or one that was shaped by the previous owner from a paddle headstock neck....and then had decals added.

Well, the only Squier I have eally played was a pro-tone. I surprised me, but it was at MIM prices at that time. Now that I type that, it mademe think that the MIM Classic Series are at or above Hywy 1 prices, and the make the hywy 1 guitars that I have played seem like a Sq_Bullet, I picked one of them up and put it right down once.

My only real complaint about the neck is the narrower [regular] width at the nut. I like them a little wider dud to bigger hands than normal.
But you get used to anything.

I find necks that are a little narrow or have smaller frets for example, well, make me have to be more deliberate to play on cleanly.

My scalloped neck makes me have to play the most deliberately, and it cleans me up overall. Kind of like training on a 22lb. bicycle and taking out the 15lb. on race day. ;)

I get back on a big fret neck and sound better [cleaner]

Well, the tuning machines seem original, no extra hole under them or holes next to them like thay where changed. The type with the 2 pins cast into the housing that rest in dual holes for each in the back of the headstock to align and hold in place. Does that provoke anything??

Every Squier rosewood board I've fooled with is thick like that, walnut around the head access truss rod nut, shape of neck to heel transition.

But, the tuners say Fender. I'm known for taking these things off, not putting them on, but don't Fender specs tuners have their pegs in different locales than do the Squiers? Were new peg holes drilled, or are the round covers 'fender' while the actual tuner is not? CIK or CIJ Fender?

If incredible wood finds its way to a plant in Asia, and a high end guitar also manufactured at that plant can't use the blank, what do you do with it? Ship it back stateside for separate sale here? Don't think so. Nothing much to do with it but put it on a guitar. Having said that, I'm not convinced yet for sure it is a Squier neck.

The auction said pau ferro custom shop, but I did not believe it. Nor did I believe the story the seller gave me that is was a never used neck he got when he worked there [in CA at the custom Shop].

What SN# scheme does the Custom Shop stuff use?? The frets where new for sure when I got it. I'll shoot a shot of the fret board and add it to the thread.

OK, here is the Neck next to a known rosewood neck.

The pic is of Pau Ferro from Warmoth. Hmm....

I'm rather certain that is not a custom shop serial number. (at least it's not like any I've seen) There are a few forms of CS serial numbers but they are all pressed into the wood slightly on the back of the headstock and are amber color. Most have the "V" logo but I have one that has the signature of Fred Stuart also and the logo.

The wood does appear to be Pau Ferro.
