Can someone give me the Cliff Notes rundown on compressor designs? I gather that most of the compression effects out there are either just like or at least similar to one of a small number of original types. I've heard Dynacomp, Orange Squeeze, Keeley, maybe a couple of others mentioned. How many basic circuits are there in the compression field?
For instance, MXR has "Dynaomp" and "Supercomp". Is that just one basic circuit with or without an Attack control or is it two different approaches to doing compression? Is my 10-series Ibanez CPL a clone of a Supercomp since it has an Attack control? Or do several different circuits have Attack parameters?
