Just got a call to play upright bass for Handel's Messiah. 50 piece orchestra & choir. I love this music, but I only have a week to review the score. It's been a number of years since I played it last on bass. I'm a little apprehensive - my orch chops are very rusty. There will be a lot of praying on my part!!!!!!

If anybody's in Ventura CA on Saturday March 15 at 6 pm, come by Community Prebyterian Church on Poli Street. No admission cost, but freewill offering if you want.

Wow! thats a huge chunk of music (good luck). Are you doing the entire production? I'll have to go buy that recording someday. Its been 15 years since I've seen the whole thing performed.

No, it's just the Passion and Resurrection selections. I've played the whole thing on bass with other orchestras (probably 6 or 7 years ago), and this program on cello 2 years ago. It's about 90 minutes of music IIRC, and much easier on bass than on cello, as bass only plays the forte ripieno and tutti celli parts.

It's coming down to the wire. I'm really starting to sweat! I'm wrapping my rosary beads around the URB headstock for extra grace. Who's the patron saint of good intonation?
