MXR fans?

Hi,

Any MXR pedal fans here? I don't see them in conversations here and they look like a decent price for US made pedals with true bypass. Some of their OD/distortion offerings look to be even less than some of the China made pedals and I don't think I want to spend big $ when I play mostly clean and want a good delay pedal in the budget.

It seems to me their M-115 would be a well-priced alternative to an OCD, Maxon, Boss or some others.

Thanks for any input.

the DynaComp, Distortion+, Phase90, and MicroAmp are classics but opinions
vary as to whether the new ones are "as good as" the originals from the 70s
and 80s or not..

I'm gonna buy one of the new delay pedals they just came out with...

I also have a dynacomp it is kind of a classic pedal.

My first pedal was a distortion +... not so much.

I've used an original block logo Phase 90 which was brilliant and an original Blue Box which was insane but great fun. I currently use a reissue DynaComp and have no complaints about that either so I've been generally impressed.

Yes, the new delay pedal (Carbon Copy) has an attractive price. Thus, my interest in the Distortion III where it's price for US made and some reviews have me interested.

I am not sure I'd use the looping some more expensive delay pedals offer because I have a JamMan making that new one attractive compared to the Electro-Harmonix offerings but I do like my EHX Small Clone a lot.

GAS and AAS have been bad enough so I don't need PAS. Especially when I play mostly clean.

Thanks.

I've had a Phase 90 for around 3 years now and love it. I bought it used, so I don't know exactly how old it is, but it doesn't have the script logo.

I had a Distortion+ and thought it was pretty weak, and I also had a GT-OD, but ended up liking my amps natural overdrive better.

I've never owned an MXR pedal. I have a Carbon Copy on the way, it'll be my 1st. Seems everywhere I read a 50/50 take on MXR stuff: "it's junk"/"it's built like a tank." When I saw the FEATURES of the CC, I didn't care if it was MXR or not. If you think you might like their M115/D3, just give it a shot. You certainly can't go wrong for the price...

I absolutely adore my MXR Phase 90! Magic little orange box. One knob, it doesn't get simpler than that. And it sounds great in every position. My favourite pedal.

I really liked the MXR Distortion + that I tried, but it didn't do mild overdrive well. But it rocked. Yes, it colours your sound, but in a good way.

Do the new ones sound as good as the old ones? Who cares! The new ones sound great.

I've posted this a couple of times...

MXR Distortion III is the best (and now the only) od pedal I use. $80 retail + true bypass!

I've heard great things about that pedal too, I'd like to try it side by side with a Distortion +

Primary differences between the Distorton+ and the Distortion III are true bypass and a tone knob on the III.

I own an old MXR Micro Flange. I never seen another one or a re-issue.

I like they Dynacomp a lot, but it's a Dunlop pedal. I never had an opportunity to A/B it with an original. I'd love to hear from someone who has.

Thanks Joe! Now I'm really curious! My experience with MXR pedals is that the fewer knobs the better. They seem to find just the right sound for me to the point where I don't need to tweak them.

with a Dynacomp (modded), and also thinking about buying an EVH Phase 90, I guess I'm a fan too!

I've A/B'ed the original Dynca Comp to the new dunlop one. The old one totally blows the new ones out of thewater. They aren't even the same pedal really, the only thing that relates them are the name. Kind of a shame. But I love my original MXR pedals, I have three Distortion +'s for some reason, they all work and are in great condition. I want to sell 2 out of the three.

I have to say, the new Phase 90 isnt all that bad. I havent heard another new phaser that compares. I dont like the boss phasers at all.

I have my script logo Dynacomp I bought back in the day , It was my main comp for 30 years. I now use a Keeley on my larger pedal board.
I have the Dyna in a 3 pedal rig I use on local gigs. It rocks, has a bit more personality than the Keeley , the Dyna is less objective, colors the sound in a good way, but is more noisy than the Keeley. So the Keeley goes to work more often than the Dyna these days.

I went with the CSP-021 upon being told it doesn't clip frequencies and is ideal for more clean playing. It has only been one evening of playing after it got off the brown truck, but I am happy. I could not compare it side by side, but it sure seems a great value compared to the OCD pedal I tried and was considering.

It's a generalization, but I like it more with my Strat than with Tele, but that's just because I like (more like addicted to) clean Tele tone. I also like it with some of the S1 switch options. For the Tele I like it most with just some boost and a bit of distortion.

Add up the tone, true bypass, US made and price for a winner.

I'll also give some credit to Guitar Adoptions where I bought it. I was given good advice, shipping was free and I got in in a day. I'm not so sure I like the big crooked silver Guitar Adoptions sticker on the box, but that's just me. I read good comments about Guitar Adoptions on the Larrivee Forum and I see he sells G & L.

That's in my sights, and Dave at Guitar Adoptions said it's quite nice. I am not aware of anything else in that price range that meets analog, true bypass, decent price and not China-made.

Dave said his due date for them is in about a week if of course Dunlop/MXR is on time.....

been using both dynacomp and super dynacomp for years... like em, but never really tried anything else. when i do, itll be a barber tone press. i want to be able to blend it with the uncompressed signal.

i also know a few people with the mxr stereo chorus and also like it a lot. the only thing ive heard better (in a pedal) is the tc stereo chorus, but it's almost twice the price.

imho.

I had the original Phase 45 and Phase 90 way back in the way back; sold 'em when I went "clean"--- two years ago, I tried the the R. I. s, but they just didn't compare (or mebbe I jes' forgot what the original really sounded like---wish I'd kept my old Moonstone too).

Had an old AND new Dynacomp---different from each other, but I like them both, though my Carl Martin gets much more use (more practical/versatile).

Had an original Analog Delay, which is what the Carbon Copy appears to be a (shrunken) version of (w/ more options). The original was a killer that started "goin' south" inexplicably after about 10 + years, but got even more----interesting, REALLY interesting---- as it got sicker. Prob was, I couldn't be sure WHAT it would sound like from day to day so I finally took it to a vintage "recycler" down in HB who snapped it up for $375 9 years ago--- he auditioned it and said (w/a twisted smirk) "wow, I've never heard one sound QUITE like THAT before!" but he had a standing "buy on sight" order from a longtime customer who was an MXR freak (at least that was the scoop he laid on me).

I'm interested in that R. I. (the Carbon Copy) too---as I remember, Keef touted the original as one of his fave peds.

I just picked one up today. WOW. This thing sounds killer. I'm going to replace my valuable Boss DM-2's and 3's and old Ibanez AD-9 and AD-99. This is a great pedal!

Also the '74 Phase 90 RI is amazing too. I picked one of those up too!

I have a Phase 100 on my pedalboard, beautiful old fashioned phasing.

I have built clones of the Distortion +, Micro Amp and a modded Dynacomp. The Dynacomp clone is on my board, the Distortion + clone is great for that 70s/80s rock guitar sound, esp with humbuckers.

Interested in hearing more about the carbon copy

Want to know more about the 74 Phaser.

Does anybody know the sound difference in the 74 phaser and the custom shop phaser.

I own an old 70's MXR Flanger with the attached cord. This thing's built like a tank and does that EVH thang like only it can do...
Had this pedal since mid-80's and hope it never fails me!

Had several Dyna's over the years and an Orange box Phase 90 that I wish I still had. My old Ross phaser just went down on me and is really missed. Looking for a local tech to fix it...

Looking to add a Blue Box to the maddness now, if can find one cheaper that full retail or maybe horse-trade to get one.

Anybody got some other songs that utilized the Blue Box - other than Page's w/ LZ?

I love......

-my Phase 90
-my EQ, the new black one with lights on the slide/faders
-Dyna Comps

Love their project boxes, you can smash a classic EH project box to bits with a classic MXR box. I love the size of their pedals and the true bypass. Nice.

I have several MXR pedals, but the only one I really really LOVE is their Distortion II, from the late 70s.

If they ever reissue that, I'll probably get 3 or 4, just to have backups. I've never heard ANY O/D or distortion pedal that sounds even CLOSE to the Distortion II.
