Starting a VOX VR30R club

Picked this VOX amp yesterday nos from the HOG. I must say I do like the sound. Pretty simple amp too. Valve reactor technology but sounds nice and rich for lack of a better term. Has 2 o.d. channels, the latter being insane o.d. which I can't ever see me using but the the first o.d. channel is a nice bluesy grit sound. Clean is very warm and depending on which I am playing single coil or humbuckers it can get nice and bell like. thanks

This is an older discontinued model I stumbled upon really. I wanted another VOX amp and an amp that could take the place of my VC20 that I was trading in. For some reason over the past few months the VC started to eat up tubes and beats me as to why. I put 2 new sets put in over the last 9 months and instead of putting money into it to see why I figured I'd trade it. Saw this VR30R that was nos(new old stock) sitting out up front at the HOG and figured what the heck.

It has the same basic 10" speaker that my VT30 has or at least it appears that way. This amp uses one 12ATX7 tube that I replaced with a Peavey grade tube I had and a really big difference in performance and sound. I mean at least twice as good for sound and power. As for the od channels, the over drive channels LOVE humbucking guitars. Especially channel 2 which I thought I would never use but I have to tell ya it has such a good break up sound it ain't even funny. Sounds like someone clearing there throat with a bad cold. Think Tom Waits through an amp. It can be that raspy with the humbuckers. Tone rolled off and I am in bluesy heaven.

The clean sounds excellent too. I can't really find anything on line about them even from the VOX site so maybe these didn't go over real well. I like mine that is for sure and truthfully is blowing my VC 20 out of the water to the tone I was looking for. thanks

They weren't made for very long as they came out w/ the valvetronic series soon after. I have the VR15 model that has less power, 8 inch speaker, and no reverb compared to the VR30. It's a keeper but right now I'm enjoying my PF.

They are popping up at Guitar Center now, if you check under used equipment. Surprisingly they are being offered at two locations at $299. . .one was selling, and sold for $99, which seems more appropriate.
