AC15C1 Owners Shout Out!

Well it's the new improved version of the AC15. It's only been out a few months but I thought I would give it a thread for the latest and greatest version.

Just picked mine up over labor day. Amazing amp which provides a whole new range of tones for a telecaster. Go ahead brag about your new amp!

I think they rectified most of the concerns/desires of the prior version the AC15CC so can't see a need for modification.

I retubed with GT 12AX7s and Mesa EL84s. Not a big difference there but yeah, I'll bet the 12au7s would be nice.

Best purchase of 2010 for me. I've gigged with it about 5 times (4 without a mic)
Each time it gets better and better for me. I still haven't settled on which channel though. No mods to date. I would like to find out if someone can make an all birch cab for it though.

Do you think the Greenback is best for this amp or would a Weber Blue Dog Alnico bring to yet another level?

I played one today and was blown away. So many good amps coming out these days. Just when I thought I've found the best deal around another pops up. Tweaker, Deluxe VM, Marshall Class-5, Vox C1, etc.

Good time for folks looking for bang for the buck amps. Not sure what the longevity of these ams will be, but they all sound excellent.

I may not have the world's most discerning ear but I would not change the greenback in my AC151C. The amp sounds only perfect, to me. The checked the YouTube where the guy compared all the different 12" speakers using a Rivera (30 watter, if I remember correctly) and the Greenback sounds pretty darn good compared to a bunch of other popular speakers. Not the Vox, but it still was quite informative.

Heard the same video and two speakers stood out, the Greenback and the Gold Celestion. Similar overall but the gold was a little fuller sound. To answer the question about swapping out the speaker, the Greenback sounds real good and unless you are going for something a bit less edgy, I can't see swapping it out. I actually thought it sounded better than the Vox Blue, sweeter high end, not so harsh.

Just spent the last hour going back and forth between the AC15C1 and an 81 Vibrolux. The VOX really hangs and given that one is a 40 watt amp and the other 15 watt, it just blows me away. It is so loud for a 15 watt that it must be underrated.

I heard back from Vox and they say it's O.K. to use an 8 Ohm speaker internally on the 8 Ohm setting, but not to use an external speaker. If an external speaker is used then the internal and external speakers must be 16 Ohms so the amps doesn't see anything below an 8 Ohm load.

I'll probably give my Weber BD Alnico a go just to see how it compares, but honestly I'd be surprised if it sounds better than the GB. It sounds so good stock, but my curiosity must be satisfied.

Just so you guys know, I tried to install the BD, but it wont fit. Too deep and no clearance for the power tubes. Bummer. I'll probably sale my BD and get another that's 16 Ohm and put it in a cab to use as an external speaker with the GB. Should be awesome.

I just bought my AC15C1 yesterday and I love it! I probably stopped by my local Guitar Center five times in the last three days to drool over it and play through it. It's a pretty amazing amp--particularly when you consider the price tag (going for $599 brand new). I absolutely love the Greenback that came in it--and it's nice to finally get an amp that I don't need to make any modifications to in order to get it "just right". Amazing, right out of the box, and I won't change a thing. The existing tubes sound great, but I'll definitely put some JJ's in it when these ones need changing. I encourage you all to go to www.eurotubes.com to get your tubes when you need to re-tube. Those guys are awesome, and they know their stuff.

Anyone know how or where to get a Vox amp cover for the AC15C1?

Any of you guys tried a Celestion Blue in this amp yet? I've read that it will fit. I do like the stock Greenback, but the blue has a clarity that's hard to beat IMO.

I love my AC15C1, kinda wish I could have splurged for the hand-wired, but this on sounds great as well.

Many people say it should have a Celestion Blue or Weber Blue but so far I am completely satisfied with the Greenback. Planing on getting some high quality tubes for it at some point.

It's interesting that the new AC30 is offered two ways with either the greenbacks or the alnico blues:

Anyway, this new AC15C1 seems almost too good to be true for the price. I need to check one out.

It's probably one of the best new amps I have heard in years. The sound doesn't wear on your ears like some of the other new amps out there. It's got a decent range of tone as well. I was playing with the Rebel 20 the other day and its a great sounding little amp but within 30 minutes, everything starts sounding like a slight variation of the same thing.

You should DEFINITELY check it out. It is really too good to be true, but it's true.

A great amp. I've had mine since March and this thing has seriously curbed any further amp gas! I tried to start an owner's thread back then but someone moved it to the amp section. I'm still playing it stock and just keeps sounding better to my ears. No interest in changing speakers at all. I did buy an Accutronics reverb tank but haven't found the need to even change that right now.

I cannot believe this amp, it's ridiculous. I have no idea how it will hold up over time but for 6 bills to have this kind of rock and roll sweetness--with cool looks to boot? It's really hard to believe!

Stop it... I was actually going to try one of these out yesterday, but fortuntately the annoying people at GC prevented that. I was feeling pretty good about not spending any money for almost 24 hours, so, just quit with this "best amp ever" stuff, Ok?
