Red Plate Amps

I just love my new Tweedy Verb. Anyone else out there have one of Henry's incredible amps?

Hi, can I join? My amp is a Carr Slant 6V, but Henry totally reworked the lead channel to Dumble OD specs.

Sure, if it has Henry's imprint on it, I'm sure it's got that mojo. Welcome aboard. I'm surprised there seem to be no other Red Plate owners on the forum. Henry's the man.

Quite a following on The Gear Page. I could see them take off here, too-Henry's amps LOVE Telecasters!

Shortly after I bought Red Plate (Tweedy Verb) and a new AVRI 52' Tele, financial disaster hit and my band fell apart almost simultaneously, so they're not getting much use. I'm divesting like a mofo, but I'm hoping to hold on to the Tele, the Tweedy (hard to sell an amp that has your name on it anyway), my National El Trovadors, and my Collings. Lots of pedals and my Pro Tools Digi 3 have already been sacrificed. I'm hoping I'll get to use the Red Plate to gig again someday. Married to an academic who has to move, so no telling where we'll land. I did do one gig with it, a pseudo acoustic gig with a harp player, where we plugged in. (I have Hot Plate p/u's on my Nationals). Got a hellacious tone out of the National with the Red Plate Tweed setting.

A Redplate amp is one I want before I pass. Just can't aford one right now.

tamlin54-how long it take for henry to build your amp and get it to you?

Small group here, but it's a thread that's probably worth maintaining. I ordered a Redplate MDD about two weeks ago, and Henry said it would take "three weeks max" to delivery. That's not bad when considering his past backlogs. Anyway, I'll be sure to post a pic once it arrives. Can't wait!

BTW, Tom, I have a Hot Plate on a National Style-O brass-bodied resonator. It sounds great! Mike Dowling just happens to be originally from my neighborhood, so I just had to give his Hot Plate a whirl. I haven't considered plugging it into the Redplate, but I'll have to give it a try. I wish you the best with whatever comes your way!

Sorry goinpostal, I missed your question at first. I bought it last winter. Henry had a 3 month backlog at that time. I'll say this, he delivered on time, and, more importantly, it was worth the wait! I think Henry is always evolving his amp models. He was building a Tweedy for Joe Louis Walker concurrently, and told me I ended up with exactly the same amp. Well, except mine has MY name on it.
Jim pridx, I'm anxious to see pictures of your MDD. I'm sure you'll love it!

I'll be joining the Redplate "renegades" with a Blackverb combo about 3 to 4 weeks out according to Henry's last estimate. I think he has that amp in it's final 2 ultimate configurations...mine will be the Blackverb Standard listed now on his site.

Looking forward to more clean extension than my former Z MAZ18 NR could offer up, although that was indeed a killer amp and I'll likely own one again someday. I'll circle back here in about a month hopefully with a full report.

I got the Redplate Backverb 1-12 combo last Friday. Holy Cow! What an amp!

Here is a back shot:

To give you a size perspective, here is my amp with the builder Henry and my buddy Bob Cooper, who lives near Henry's shop.

I believe I've jammed with Bob a few times myself. Haven't run into him for a few years, but as I recall he was an amp aficionado, so no surprise he would hanging out at Red Plate.

I have a black tweed special that I have had for about a year or so. It is a great amp for sure. Just wish I had the gigs to crank her up a little bit more. They do sound good a lower volumes but man they are unbelievable when cranked.

I've had this one for several weeks now. It's a high-powered machine, but it sounds great:

Got a BlackVerb Standard with all the whistles and bells and a couple of little extras on order. Mine is black tolex, wheat grill clothe, and cream knobs.

Looks absolutely killer and will sound killer too.
Henry was unbelievable with his attention given and thoughts and input about what I wanted done to it.

I can't wait. I haven't been this excited in years over a new peice of equipment and what I'll be ble to do with it. I'll actually be able to get my tone without blowing out the eardrums of those within fifty feet of me.

Hands down, the best amp that I have ever played!

Tweedydrive (Tweedyverb type front end w/o verb, has drive/master/loop)

Pardom me for temorarilly not having a Tele. Temporary, and yes, painful!
