Kustom owners?

I own and play a Kustom Double Barrel and very much enjoy it. Any other Kustom owners?

I have two Kustoms, that I love. A '36 Coupe, and a '72 Hardtop with a 2 X 10 cabinet.

Back in high school my drummer's dad bought us a Kustom P.A.- two gorgeous speaker enclosures encased in that aqua-sparkle puffy plastic. It really made an impression!

Those Kustom P.A. cabinets also made great van seats.

Kustom called that aqua sparkle "cascade," that's what color my Kustom 100 is.

"Tube" 12a...neat little amp with some unique tones in it.
I've owned a few others over the years including a T&R 200 head that I found in a thrift for $40 a few years ago..I put it up on CL & it was gone with in the hr.

I have two Kustom K200 heads from the late 60's. One is a K200-A5 PA with reverb and the other is a K200-B6 with the left side bright channel wired with Selectone, an EQ shifting feature usually on the later K250s. I also used to have, but sold, a matched pair of cascade green CTS loaded 2x15"s, a blue Jensen loaded 2x15", and a black CTS 1x15" all from the K200/100 series. Both heads I still own are absolutely killer for guitar OR bass, depending on the cabs. I use the K200-B6 w/ a pair of Epiphone Valve Junior 1x12"s now (if you want to hear it w/ pedals, check out "Born Under a Bad Sign on my purevolume: http://www.purevolume.com/edricco ).

This was the cascade pair I sold:

And the inside of my K200-B6:

And my K200-A5 w/ the pair:

Tube 12a for me too. Not so bad as an emergency rehearsal amp with the emergancy rehearsal guitar.

When I bought my first real Tele, I had a little money left over, so I asked the shopkeeper what was the cheapest tube amp he had. He was so busy selling beginner guitars to the schoolkids (big profit) he just pointed to the Kustom. I picked it up and bought it from the other schoolkid serving behind the counter that day.

As I walked out the door I could hear him calling out behind me: "It's only the pre-amp which has the valve!". Like I knew what a pre-amp was then. I wanted to get the Tele home.

I think he realised he could have made a bigger sale one second too late.

I have a Tube 12a. I just bought a Vox pathfinder 15r for my son-in-law for christmas this year to go with the partscaster I am building for him. He likes the Foo Fighters, which is a little heavier sound than I like, so I bought him the vox. Tonight I A-B'd them. I guess I like the chimey cleans a bit better in my Kustom. I can't say one is better than the other. The Vox deffinately has more depth to the overdrive than my Kustom, but I think I'll be keeping the little Tube 12. She's sweet, with tone for days. The distortion is a bit harsh, but more vintage rock-like. I changed the tube for a Tung-Sol. I think that made a big difference in this little amp. I guess it could use a little better speaker, but I use headphones alot, as to not wake up the rest of the house at night. For this, my Tube 12 is perfect. I also added a Holy Grail reverb, which gives my sound more depth. I wish it had the tremelo that the vox has, but... it's a keeper anyways. For $100, you really can't beat it.

I guess it's time I checked in here... Got a Coupe 36 112 in blue sparkle. Loud enough for almost any sane blues jam, relatively light (45 lbs), made in USA, and 100% tube-dilly-icious. Tube driven Accutronics 3 springer absolutely nails those classic surf tones. Fun lil' amp, very versatile, but still traditional enough to keep the purists happy too.

Than what?

Kustom has made a LOT of amps over the years.

A friend of mine was playing a vintage Kustom tuck-and-roll bass head with tuck-and-roll 2x15 cab, yesterday on our downtown plaza, and it sounded great.

Since this thread is for Kustom owners, and it's clear you neither are nor want to be, why are you even posting here?

I heard lots 'n' lots (and I mean LOTS) of worse sounding amps... but clearly either our ears are hearing differently or you encountered a Kustom in bad shape (and I just state these friendly options, you know there are more ).

I love my 1970s K150.

Another Tube 12 here. It’s real cool little amp. I agree about changing the tube. It makes a big difference. If anyone has got one and not tried it. It’s pretty easy to get to. Take the two screws out of the top. Loosen the two screws on the side just a little, and you can just roll the chassis back to expose the tube.
