The Univox Union...
OK, Now that I've finally got my little U-45B up and running, it's time to start up The Univox Union, all us people that have those fun little amps that just sound so nasty/cool (and I suspect a fair number of people had these as their "first" amps too...)
see my restoration thread here: http://www.tdpri.com/forum/shock-bro...ml#post1927175 I'm sure there's at least a few people who would want to join this union... Franc Robert

I have a U45B, which looks the same vintage as yours. I changed the original "suitcase" handle right away to a normal amp style one...it vibrated too much for my liking.
I replaced the atlas decoupling caps with film caps, that brought some more treble and presence out of the circuit. While it had a unique dirty sound, my tinkering self got the best of me and I put my own board in it with a blackface/tweed hybrid circuit. It has better headroom and gain now (no tremolo in the circuit now, but a master volume control in it's place). Replaced the C12S with a Weber AlNiCo sig12S, and it is now a nice grab and go combo.

i just bought this amp this weekend. http://www.tdpri.com/forum/amp-centr...ekend-but.html
Good to see more people like these amps. I immediately handed the guy money when he gave me the price. I've gotten the same reaction from my guitar buddies. They think its a really nostalgic amp.. |

Seeing that picture of the Univox U45B and is it just me or does the Swart Space Tone Reverb aesthetically look just like a Univox....
Also the Univox U45B is reborn as the Goodsell Unibox....only handwired and probably has a Hammond transformer in their somewhere but it is a 10 watt 1x12 with tremelo and uses the HiFi 6BM8 valves which are still made....1x12AX7 and 2x6BM8 with a 6X5GT rectifier all for a very reasonable $999 ....for all your late sixties garage band needs! |

I have a Univox violin shaped bass that I picked strawberries all summer when I was 14 to buy. Fiberglass hollow body, scroll headstock and all that.

I no longer own this one, but this seemed like a good opportunity to provide some Univox amp porn that you might enjoy.
This is an early Univox I picked up on CL. It's a 100% original 1960 "Model 10" - I have yet to see another. ![]() ![]()
