Sorry guys...

I reorganized my images in Photobucket, so there are a bunch of blank spots in my posts above.

Most importantly, here are with and without images of a death cap on my Guild 66-J (the yellow "chicklet," not original but changed during a recap )...even though a good cap, it was letting enough current through that the GFI in my basement kept tripping. Lesson learned, removed and three-wire line cord with ground installed.

And secondly, I think I lost the images of my ~'62 Guild 99-J, replaced below for your edification.

If anyone has good pictures, or can take good pictures of early '60's rubber feet on/for these amps, I would appreciate seeing them. Had some (images), but think I lost them in a computer swap.

Cheers!

Hi Bill; the 99J looks might good!

If anyone here is interested in pics of more Guild amps, follow this link over to Lets Talk Guild. A few models are missing; the bass and lead Mavericks and a couple of others but lots of older .. and newer Guild amps to look at.

Hey Bill My amp Is a Guild 99-U Ultra the control panel looks like yours but it is in a head, I no longer have the cabinet, I remember it having 2 Jensen 12"s and the head clipped on to it with these luggage clasps lol. It's the same greyish/bluish/grey luggage cloth look as yours. The controls on mine are Vol 1 Vol 2 Bass Treble Strength & Speed. The tube compliment is 2 x 6L6, 1 x GZ34, 3 x 6Eu7. It's had some work (just replacement filter caps and a few resistors) new tubes and it sounds heavenly. It has clean sustain with a "dusky" finish to chords, like nothing I have ever heard before. She was stolen from me in 1986 and I got her back 3 months ago haha long story.

Rev, it would be great if you could take some higher resolution images of your amp.

Did not know that Guild made piggy-backs back in the day; hard to tell exactly, but looks like the cab is original...though you seem to be missing a switch and a fuse!

The 6EU7's as pre-amp tubes are oddball for Guild, very Gibson-esque. The authority on this, Capnjuan above, sadly passed away a short time ago. On LetsTalkGuild.com he was the go-to man an all amplifiers Guild; greatly missed by his family and many friends

sorry to hear about the capn there are so few good guys that know about this stuff Bill, the head cab is all original. the fuse is on the back as is the ground switch thingy. the cab beneath it is a traynor DHx12 but with a 8 ohm Celestion Vintage 30.
There is almost NO info on this amp. On the guild guitars inc. New Jersey oval paper sticker inside the head in PEN it says "Guild 99-Ultra serial No. 165". The amp used to have a sticky back Guild badge that eventually fell off and got lost.
I think it's a 59 or 60 but am not totally for sure on that, I remember the original Jensen speakers were dated 1957. One thing that I do know is that it's supposed to be a Deluxe version of the 99-J. What did the J stand for? Junior? Hmm. I'll try to take some better pictures. Thanks for replying Bill.

Looking forward to it! Old gut shot of my recently acquired 99J.
Covered in shelfpaper - ripped the shelfpaper off and it's covered with cigarette burns and nicotine....

Welcome aboard, Steve!

I know I am supposed to know, but is that rectifier a 5Y3 or a 5U4? Looks tiny next to those 6L6's...

How's that Speaker sounding? I'm using an 8 ohm Vintage 30 with my 99-U Head, sounds super.

Never seen anything like it! Gonna have to try and look through some old repros of catalogs to see if I can find it. Nice!

The covering on the cab seems to be the same as on my '63 66-J...

I just *cringe* stapled that covering on to the sides of cab. I'm seriously thinking of having it re-covered. This is something I'm using, so, fairly unconcerned with any 'vintage value' it might possess, as, I'm never selling it ever. Unless, I'm offered maybe $10,000.00
What's your opinion? The staples are holding it for now

so i heard that that covering was used by guild in way late 50's early 60's and judging by your pics (which one can actually see haha) it IS the same thin airline luggage crinkly cloth, I remember how mine looked before it was M.I.A. and it's identical. By the way mine was made in Hoboken New Jersey, am curious where yours was made. They were made in NY and NJ.

Actually there was a pretty good article about the older Guild amps in Premier Guitar not too long ago...think 50L6 power tubes

http://www.premierguitar.com/Magazin...the_1950s.aspx

Seems I identified my 66-J as coming from Hoboken when I got it (1968!), there is nothing on my 99-J except the Guild logo added to the speaker magnet.

FWIW, my blonde BF Tremolux head has its tolex secured by staples on the bottom, and it is original...maybe it was a final thing while they waited for the glue to dry???
