Club Silvertone

I've owned a '50s Model 1392 Silvertone for 20-plus years. Tremolo still works great. A fabulous little amp for a Tele.

I've got a great 1482.

This pic is from the web but it's the same amp.

There's my 1482 behind my Les Paul's headstock:

Real cool gutbucket blues tones (Elmore James style). More primitive and dark than my 5E3. Great for lo-fi garage rock too. I put a jack on the back for the 8 ohm tap their OT has (but they never used) and plug it into my iso-cab for recording or a 2x12" with Celestion Blues for louder jamming.

My little brother, the pawnshop employee, hooked me up with this 1484 Twin Twelve today.
All original down to the tubes and footswitch.
I'm going to replace the electrolytics and power cord, try to get the trem working, and swap the built-in speaker cable for a jack.

i'm in....

here's my '62 1482....it came with a 10" on the stock 1/8" paper/fibreboard baffle, so i replaced it with a Jensen 12" mounted on a 7-ply Birch baffleboard...
it sounds great paired up with one of my Archtops....

Somewhat modded 1472 as it has a preamp line out and a Eminence 8 ohm heavier wattage speaker instead of the origional 4 ohm one. Also set up with a plate with jacks on it going to the speaker to use as a speaker cab and jacksfor the OT for 4 and8 ohm loads. Oh and a new pine case too slightly deeper to accomodate a heavier speaker.

Man I wish I could still play. I had a mid 60's 1481 that was ok. Good harp amp at about 5 watts. But my big regret was letting go my 1483. A bass amp actually but at around 15 watts it wasn't much of one. But what a guitar amp. 6L6's 5y3 rect and a couple of 12ax7's through a C15P Jensen. Great blues tone. Ran it through a 4-10 cab sometimes. Bit like a bear. Miss that "Silvy"

Yes, Nat Daniel build some great sounding amps. He started in the 40's developed alot of designs that other people took credit for since he did'nt patent everything. All pretty simple circuits, and cheaply made cabinets, but great tone. Kinda like buying an old Chevy Nova, then souping it up,, with some mods they are great amps.
I think you should call this Danelectro Club. He made amps for other people like sears silvertone, airline, and pioneer, But they were all Danos.

You can see my 1483 in my signiture. I have it hooked up to a 2x12 G & K cab but the original 15" Jensen still works great! Mine was built in 65' and is rated somewhere around 22-24 watts. I've had it since 70'. I took it into the shop about 2 months ago for it's first tune up after 44 years and the original tubes are still going strong. Just needed some capacitors/resistors and a little TLC. It still has all the original gear except a 3 prong cord was installed when I took it in. Wouldn't sell/trade it for anything.

I think this thread should be locked. 1482s are the WORST amp ever made. If you see one in a pawn shop of thrift store, just walk on by so I can buy it

I didn't just say that last part out loud, did I?

I have a Silvertone 5XL model 1020 , it runs about 4 watts of tube driven goodness . I bought her for $30 at a guitar show years back and did a recap job . It's a one trick pony but it's great at that .

I had heard that some of the Silvertone Amps were based on Fender Blackface/Tweed schematics.....this makes me think it might have been the other way around. The tone of my 1x15 1483 sounds very similiar to a 4x10 59' Fender Bassman....only richer. I genuinely prefer the sound of the Silvertone over the classic Fender.....at least compared to the re-issue that I played at GC, (and that could be it.....mine still has the original RCA 6L6s and 12AX7's in it and I think the Fender re-issue may not be the same beast as the original.)

New to the Silvertone Club. Will take a picture of my "new" 1484. By all means, Wild Rice, get that trem fixed.

Anybody say how nice they sound with a Tele? Almost a tad of compression built in.

I fixed it and posted a pair of videos!

Although it really needs a thorough servicing, which I need to find the time to do.

Very nice sound. I assume you made the guitars?

My Twin Twelve isn't very clean looking, but it has an incredible tone with my '52. I'm getting a little crackling at higher volumes, probably need to reseat the tubes after transporting home. The trem works great and is really cool. Never heard good things about the reverb, and it doesn't work anyway, so I may not even mess with it.

Yes, one in '98 and the other in '05.

I got this 1964 1482 a couple weeks ago. It is original. It has a square soundhole. Someone told me that was to improve sound. Doesn't seem right to me.
