Well...my SCXD arrived on monday...man it is incredible!! I was in my studio for several hours playing and just exploring this gorgeous amp. It is amazing I think I have only scratched the surface. I was really pleased with the clean channel...and when I went to channel 2 and started to play with the voicings and FX...wow...the possibilities are endless!!!

Congrats ADK, I've had mine almost a month and am still in love with it. I sware I find a new "sound" to play with daily on the thing!

I bought a Takamine electric a couple years ago*, because I thought it would go with my small collection of old Taks, and I got a Super Champ XD to go with it, at the suggestion of the store owner.
I think it's perfect for my needs. All my gigs are in my living room, when I'm home alone, and its volume and tone variety is plenty for me. It does a pretty good job, too, with my acoustic-electric Tak (340S BG,) as long as I watch out which setting I use; some of them squeal pretty badly. My tele build is almost ready, and I anticipate that it will get along very well with the Super Champ! * somebody shoulda told me before I was 50, how much fun electric guitars are

I played a pickup gig last Saturday... a cocktail party hosted by the owner of a software company at his posh home...
We had a pianist and grand piano, another keyboardist and his Korg workstation, sax player, electric bassist, two acoustic guitarists and two electric guitarists, playing standards and a few jazz nuggets. This wasn't my "regular" band, but I play pickup gigs too whenever I get the call. Anyway, we played mainly without charts; someone would say the name and key of a song, and away we'd go. We did this all night long, and it was a total blast! I played one of my Strats through my SCXD, and it sounded great. No matter what the song was, as soon as I heard what it was, I'd dial in an amp model (and effect if the spirit moved me) to suit the song and go for it. That's one flexible amp! We got plenty of compliments (and tips too).

I bought one for a very good price including foot switch from TGP. So far I've put a pair of black plate 6V6's biased at 40mv, RCA 12ax7, Allen TO20 OT (great upgrade for $50) and after finding a 'Lil Buddy a 'lil too mid range honky to my ears I settled on a Legend 1058. What a nice sounding amp now and it takes pedals quite well too. For the price point Fender got one right and when you can score one pre-owned cheap they are hard to beat.

I'll throw my hat in the ring here. I bought the SCXD a few months back on a Fender Friday sale at Muscians Friend. Didn't know much about it other some people saying it was good, so I bought it on a whim. $210 shipped with foot switch seemed to be a great deal for a 15 watt tube amp. It was the best decision I've made. I fell in love with the tone of the XD. I found it hard to believe that the voices were coming from a DSP. I can't say enough good things about it.
Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago and I see a non-working one on eBay. I won the auction and got it for $106 total. I pop it apart and look over the circuit board. Turned out the flash memory chip was not fully pressed into the socket. A simple push with my finger and my 2nd SCXD works perfectly. |

I will say that this amp continually surprises me with it's capabilities. Yesterday I was playing my new HWY 1 Tele through it and man...it is amazing..I was able to dial in tones and get that classic Fender sound I have been searching for. I don't even use my beautiful Digitech RP 355 anymore...the FX on the SCXD are more than I need. It is amazing...I now only have to bring my SCXD and my Tele....no more lugging around pedals amps, guitars etc....

Got mine in Sept. '08 and keep coming back to it!
I have been playing my Squier Standard Tele, w/a Gibbie Humbucker in the neck position, through the SCXD. Using Ch 1, the tele on the mid or bridge pup setting, with or without effects for rhythm work. I put the tone knobs on the amp as, T-3, B-8-10.
For a lead sound I switch to Ch2, Voice #7, with reverb/delay on about 2-4, while switching to the humbucker at the neck. The difference going back and forth with the hummer is amazing. Very sweet sound indeed. Voice 7 I have as Gain-3-4, Volume-set as needed. This allows some of the biting harmonics and distortion to come thru, but does not make it the dominant part of the sound. More restrained. Thicker yes, good sustain yes. But not fuzzy and ugly when played with my acoustic guitar partner. Of course I hold the volume back on the guitar when checking sound levels so as to leave some more overhead if needed. A quick turn of the guitar's vol. knob and presto...dirty looks from my partner. That's how I know I have enough ooomph if needed. I have disconnected the neck hummer from the guitar tone circuit, a simple solution, so now I get the hummer to sound as clean as I can, while setting the guitar tone knob for the bridge single coil. Finally found a way (here of course!) to rein in the bridge pickup without killing any treble in the hummer. |

Simple,
Sounds great my friend!!! It is amazing...I was searching and searching for a new tube amp and tested a ton of them and well....this amp time and again just was head and shoulders above the others. It translates really well in the studio too I recorded a few tracks the other day in stereo...one driect from the amp into the board the other with a Sure SM 57 about 12" from the amp and it sounded sooo sweet! I am looking forward to tomorrow when I am back in the studio to finish up the lead tracks...it is going to be a good day!!! |

I keep going back to voice #9 for that Marshall crunch. Keep the gain around 2 or less so it doesn't get too compressed. Voice #8 is noticeably darker, #9 seems more bright and open with my SG.

(I've said this before somewhere, please pardon)-I got a SF Vibro Champ, with a 10in. speaker baffle, earlier this year and found an old 8ohm, unlabeled, Eminence speaker in it. Pretty heavy magnet, it was holding the little amp back. I took the Ragin Cajun out of the SCXD and put that well worn Eminence in. Certainly a warmer , more mellow sound now. I think this little modern amp benefited from an older, for all I know nearly worn out, ceramic speaker. Added some character, less sterile sound. IDK... Pretty fun stuff though! |

Count me in the club. I just picked up my new Super Champ XD today. I have only briefly tried it out before going to work, but so far, I'm very pleased. Compliments my '09 MIM sunburst Tele quite well.
