That's good deal on those Veteran 30's. The one I got is a Chinese Vintage 30, but it sounds like a regular one. I've got a Marshall cabinet with Vintage 30's and there is no noticeable difference in sound.

I have had my 64 Deluxe for nearly 20 years and did not notice that It had no channel numbers. I think that is why re-issues look wrong to me. Well that and the logo on the grill. Thanks for sharing.

I have always thought silverfaces look better than blackfaces, in fact I thought about getting one of these hand-wired clones and sticking a silverface face-plate on it, then you get the best of both worlds, a reliable handwired amp, for less money than a vintage blackface, as I could not see my self have another PCP amp, I would pick what caps and resisters I would want it built with, and choose speaker and tubes and a nice pine cab, I would like a vintage one, but it makes no real difference to me, as a new clone built to high std would be more than enough, as I would never sell it, and it is going to be reliable over a vintage one, also with a clone, you get to choose which year you want it built to, as some of the silverface ones have little changes compared to the 65

Just picked it up yesterday...a 1994 with the Eminence speaker that was stock on the early 90s DRRIs.
I believe the stock Fender tubes are still in there as well...any idea who was supplying their stock tubes in the 90s? We're they thought to be any good? I tried putting in some really vintage Telefunken 12ax7s but for some reason I lost the vibrato function. Maybe those tubes are just too old at this point. This is my dream amp and I got a great deal on it for its condition and color. It sounds fantastic and even came with the case and footswitch in good order. I'm still kind of in awe about it! Blondes really do have more fun! |

I've got a black one from October of 1993; it's the earliest one I've seen.
When I got it two years ago, it still had the original tubes in her. I replaced some of them, but kept the ones that tested strong. I dont know about sound quality of the tubes, but mine sound good and are very industrial. I believe they were chinese made... I like the Eminence as well - very blackface tone. Yea, bass is a bit flabby, but thats what the originals did as well. Finally, I like the early reissues. They have charactor. Mine has a non removable power cord and a switch for grounding like the originals did. Mine was made in Brea, CA. Sent from my DROIDX using TDPRI |

I copied this post from one I did a while back,
I am sharing the photos with all in the Clubs. 1964 & 1965 Deluxe Reverb Amps One of the coolest amps to own for sure. The 1964/1965/early 1966 Years have the Nickel Plated Chassis. The Nickel Plated Chassis stay clean inside the chassis, no dust from the Zinc Oxidation over the years. I have a 1964 "No Numbered" DR, this is the early faceplate that has no 1 & 2 over the input jacks. ![]() The both the 1964 and early 1965 DR's have the rear faceplate with the "1 Amp" silk-screened in the plate. The Amps were actually a 2 amp fuse and fender made small "2" Stickers and simply stuck them over the "1" in the rear plate near the fuse. These are the early rear plates. When you see an amp on ebay and the "2" sticker is still on the rear back panel, chances are the amp is in excellent condition and has been well cared for. And the 200 Watt Sticker, this is nice to see on the rear of amps. Most of these are long gone. You can tell a lot about an amp just from the condition of the grille cloth, this cloth is near mint, shines and sparkles, never seen water. Another thing to look for is the inside stain job in the rear of the cab. Notice around the tube chart on this 65 how the stain still looks new, this is from being covered all the years. Most Blackface amps the inside rear of the amp is black from wear and aging. Clean looking stain and being able to see the wood grain are good signs the amp was always covered & well cared for. I'm the second owner on both these amps, and I have the original Bill Of Sale for the 1965. It cost 239.99 back in 1965, and that was a lot of money back then. A good used car was only 500.00. ![]() ![]() ![]() Notice the small 2 sticker over the 1 amp fuse rating. Leo used everything and when all the DR's were blowing the 1 amp fuses, he upped it to the 2 amp fuse. He used this small sticker to "comply" and most of these have fallen off the amps over the years. Once in a while I see one on ebay. If you see the 2 sticker still on the amp, this is a good sign the amp has low time on it. ![]() more pics of the 1965, I have the Celestion Gold in it, I have all the original tubes except I installed Mullard 12AT7 in V3, V&6. This amp really sings, the speaker can handle all the power. The Gold Speaker is expensive at 239.00 each. Well worth it though. Notice the bottom of the cab, no dust at all, the reverb bag is like new. It pays top keep your amps covered. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Took a while but just about finished a DR build, pretty much as stock with external biasing sockets and switchable NFB...
![]() Sounds sweet, that reverb is sooooo addictive

All up just over a grand, used the Mojo kit but installed a PT of my choice....not the Heyboer supplied. Being in Australia the postage costs are high but the end result is still well worth it and still heaps cheaper than a DRRI. Even with having all JJ tubes it's definitely the best sounding amp I've built.
