Just picked this 1970 baby up recently. It's 3rd one I've owned over the last few years - and the best sounding. It has a pair of no-longer-made Celestion G10S 50w speakers, and I think they really match well with this amp. Still has all the Fender tone and then some.

If memory serves me right, I bought my SF VR in a flee market in 1980. The man said that his kids used to play it with their keyboard. In those days I was playing a small Music Man amp after I had got rid of my SF Twin w. JBL.
The MM was good to my back but didn't cut through and didn't have enough headroom. So I relapsed and bought that VR for appx. 200 bucks. I thought that it was rediculous that it had been used to voice a keyboard and that it was about time to ice pick it w. my guitar. Little I knew, I was still a single, that I would let my kids play it with their keyboard for a period of appx. 7 years until I picked it up to play it w. my guitars again. So this one is a warm hearted family amp ;) that served quite a few people. I sold the original speakers that were not those you are usually looking for in those amps and that were nothing but flabby and muffeled. One old Emminence blue Alnico and one Jensen ceramic blend well. ![]()

I picked up a 72 SFVR yesterday. Doin' a try-out trade with my Tweed Superclone.
Tonight I have to take a peek under the hood to see if it's original or not. The previous owner didn't know if it's been tampered with. It's in mint condition (almost) and with original speakers (CTS horseshoe?) and footpedal. So far I really dig it. Better headroom than my Super. And a warm blooming sound. I miss the tilt-back legs though:-) In a week or so I will recieve my Analogman King of Tone, and then I'm hopefully set. /Thomas |

I have a '79 VR I got free from a friend. I retolexed the thing, did all my own electronics - filter caps, resistors, etc., and put in speakers then in vogue on this board - Alnico Silver Bell/Blue Pup combo. That was in 2003. I also amassed a small collection of NOS and ANOS tubes. Much improved tone then when I picked it up. But again, the thing didn't work... Might try a new speaker combo though - either Weber ceramics or something from Emminence. Any recommedations?

1980 Silverblack
I've got a 1980, it's the year they went to blackface cosmetics with silverface guts. Love it, posted something in Amp Central looking for information about these Silverblacks, wish I knew more about them.
I thought they made this model into 1982 not 81 as mentioned above.

Here's my 1965 Vibrolux. It is all original except for the caps and the three prong cord i had installed. It has the nicer jensen c10ns speakers. It sounds wonderful!!! My old roomate gave it to me to let his girlfriend live with us for a month. That woman must have some SPECIAL powers if you know what I mean

I have a '72 (probably) silverface Vibrolux that I picked up in mint condition from a church. It was stuffed with pamphlets and hiding in the basement of the church for decades. Still has cover, footswitch, and schematic. It does have some inconsistancies though. The tube chart on inside is for a Super and the speakers, while stock Fender, aren't in the common number range. I sent all the numbers i could get off it to Aspen Pittman and he said it was not uncommon for the early 70's Vibrolux's to mix silver and blackface parts. He said it's luck of the draw if it sounds good or not - fortunately mine sounds great.Still had the original RCA tubes too.
