There's lots of Peavey love at my house. Currently, I have:
Classic 30 TT Express 112 TT Bandit 112 (new version) Basic 50 Early '90's XR600 powered mixer I just picked up the Classic 30 on Wednesday. I traded my DRRI. I worked with the DRRI for alomst 5 years, but could never get it to sound right for me. It always felt dead and lifeless. The C-30 is a much more expressive amp, and sounds great. One of the best amps I've ever played was back in the '70's - an old brown Fender Deluxe. The C-30 sounds very much like that old Deluxe. I picked up the Express at the local MGR last year for $50. It looked like it had been through two wars. All it took was a good cleaning, a little De-Oxit, and a new reverb tank. It now looks and works like new. Back in the early '80's, I gigged with a Classic 50 2x12. I gigged that amp for 8 years, and never even changed a tube. I bought the XR-600 new in 1990. I don't gig it any more, but it still works flawlessly. It's used regularly as our rehearsal PA. I gig a lot, and I don't want to worry about equipment reliability. That's why I use Peavey. I've had all the big names - Fender, Marshall, Boogie, Vox, and some boutique stuff. I'll stick with Peavey, thank you. |

Wondering how old my Special is. Looks same era as the Bandit on the prev page of this thread. How do you date these old Peavey Specials?
Dont tell me, buy them a drink and wear lots of aftershave...

I’m confident of the date on mine because of a dating tip (drinks and aftershave optional According to him, a serial number with a two digit prefix followed by five or six numerals indicates a 70s product, and the prefix indicates the specific year. An example he gave was 5A-12345, the “A” signifying “amp” and the number “5” referring to 1975. If the prefix is followed by eight numerals, you have an 80s product. In my case, my Bandit 65’s serial number is 4A-01900152, so my amp came out of Meridian, Mississippi in 1984. Roger Crimm goes on to say, “After 1989, this system is no longer used, 00-12345678 means 1990 or later.” Hope this helps.

1976 Session 400 with JBL D130.
Very warm sound with transistors, not ICs. Popular upgrade is replacing the factory signal capacitors with Sprague Orange. Peavey developed the BW speaker cos the JBL power rating wasn't suited for a 200W amp. jamie

Added a new member to my Peavey family... Just got a TT Bandit 112 and it's still in my car, waiting for me to play her!
So the list is now... 1995 Triumph PAG 60 (original tubes) 1984 Bandit 65 2009 TT Bandit 112 I am a happy camper. Thing is that, after speaking with Aubrey over at Peavey, he said great things about the lead channel. I may actually not use my POD XT Live with her. We'll see. Peace

Has anyone here ever owned or used a Standard 240? I found one at a local pawn shop for $129.95 and I'm wanting to know if I should buy it. And also what are the specs on it?

For Peavey Guitars
1986 Peavey Falcon 1988 Peavey Falcon 1989 Peavey Falcon for amps late 90's/early 00's Classic 30 in the 80's/90's I had lots of Peavey gear as it(USA) was all great gear. I love the Generation Tele's I bought 3 Falcons new in the 80's(sold the active pup falcon a year ago kept the other 2 and about 2 years ago bought the 89 falcon of ebay as it had a Fender red lace sensor in the bridge and I couldn't resist. The Peavey Classic Chorus SS amp was(and is) a fantastic SS amp I had 2 over the years both gone now. I love the T-60's and the T-30's. I don't have any right now as I sold my last one a while ago. But earlier this year I bought a T-30 with the original SS amp case for my Niece's 10th birthday. here it is aren't these little gits just cute as a bug? ![]() I have had tons of Peavey gear. I remember when it was kinda tough to find stores who carried it. Now thankfully its everywhere.

Peavey Bravo 112
Peavey Rockmaster preamp..... Peavey Express 112 (Blue Stripe) Used to run a Peavey Classic 120/120 Poweramp, that thing weighed a ton and could blow the doors off any venue. I have had a few Bravo 112s over the years, absolutely love em. I run a Bravo and a Blues Jr in Stereo. Cheers |

I have a Special 130 that I bought new in 1983.
The Dirty channel signal leaks into the clean channel and the Scorpion speaker was blown several years ago. Right now it has a JBL E-120 from my Twin II in it. I did not think it was possible for that little amp to be any louder, but it is. I love the mid shift on the eq. You can cover a lot of tones using the mid shift and varied amounts of mid and saturation. The reverb on those amps was also very good. And I also still love the fact that the Solo Series were unapologetic Solid State amplifiers; no valve state; no tube emulator; No "Warm" setting. Just solid state and proud of it. I'd love to fix the clean channel on it and start twangin on it again. From that same series, I'd love to get hold of the Renown 2x12 combo. |

My first Peavey was a little 10w tranny job, Bandit I think,.and it wasn't bad. Replaced it with a 15 watt Peavey which was a touch better but I sort of lost interest in all tranny amps when I bought my first valve amp.
No disrespect to the SS crowd but you must admit that there is a certain chime that SS cannot produce. I never understood "clean tones" until I got that first valve amp. Many many amps later I stumbled onto a Classic 20 at a Bondi guitar shop and she's as good an amp as you'll get in that wattage, except for the boutique custom amps around such as Divided by 13 etc etc. Her partner in crime is a Marshall JTM 30 and together in stereo via a TC Electronics G Sharp effects unit, they kick arse. Of course when I get home tired and bustin' to play I just plug straight into the Classic 20, NO effects just my Tele, ASAT or Les Paul no need for any pedals. |

Special 130
Here's my Special after I robbed it of the JBL E120 from my twin and replaced it with a Celestion G12 (It doesn't really need the wheels anymore without the JBL either
). The sound with the G12 is an improvement over the JBL for this amp. The JBL is a bit too honest (and loud!) to compliment the sound of one of these amps. Especially when the clean channel gets signal leakage from the lead channel. The G12 actually makes the bleed over sound intentional! I still want to get it fixed though, the novelty of the faint distortion wears off when you can't control it. And, looking at the serial number and the info in LGOberean's post, mine is an 82 and not an 83 like I thought. ![]()

Jefcon, is that a 75w speaker in there? Surely the Special is likely to destroy it?
If not, how does it sound for country and blues picking? Is it an upgrade from stock in your opinion?

SteveG - Yeah that's a 75w in there. I guess if i turned the volume up over 4 the speaker might be in some danger. This is amp is so loud at 3 that I won't be turning it up passed that anytime soon. I have another G12 that I'd like to build a cabinet for and use them both. That should improve the odds of speaker survival at higher volumes. Right now this is strictly my garage amp. Thanks for the reminder though! I need to remember that if I get an urge to crank it up!
Sound improvement - It has been a long time since it had a functioning Scorpion speaker in the amp, or a functioning clean channel So I can't recall exactly how it sounded "Clean". I had a JBL E120 in it for a few years. The JBL was not a great fit for the sound of my amp. It was loud as heck, but my clean channel has bleed over from the lead channel, so there is always a faint bit of distortion mixed in with the clean signal. The JBL did nothing to improve that sound. The G12 makes that anomaly more than livable, I think it actually sounds pretty cool. The speaker break up with the distortion bleed over on the clean channel sounds bluesier than any sounds I remember getting out of the amp without pedals. As for country or anything that requires a "clean" clean channel, my amp is a very poor test case for the speakers capabilities. A Celestion wouldn't be my pick for a clean county sound to begin with and my clean-channel-handicapped amp just makes it worse. Sorry I can't provide a more informed opinion in that area. I hope to get the amp fixed soon and I'll report back on how it sounds. |

Session 500
Session 500 here.... along with my '92 Telecaster American Standard loaded with Texas Specials. A match made in Heaven. Definitely the Holy Grail of amps! I long retired and sold my old SF Twin. For wonderful tone and clean, nothing I've heard or played thru in my 45+ years of playing comes close to the Session 500. I never thought I could like SS, but the 500 made me a believer. I still have other Fender amps, but the Session 500 is the only one I gig with now.

Classic 30, love it.
Also have a 112 extension cab, contemplating a speaker change. I have a Weber sig series in the 30, still waiting on a single backordered resistor..... I had a Peavey of some sort in the late 80's. I was such a dork with a second hand floyd rose equipped Ibanez with a loud 2 speaker Peavey trying to play SRV.... glad I finally quit drinking... |

My classic 50 was given to me by my old room mate. Well, he gave me a TKO 75 last week. What a great score. Now I can play bass while my son learns songs. Both sound great and I wasn't real fond of playing my bass through the classic 50

I'm new to this forum, but I have a 50W 1973 Peavey Classic that I just changed the grill cloth on last week and I took a few photos. The cloth is a little lighter than the original, but didn't have the desire to send it back. I love this amp!

Picked up a Valve King recently for $200. The orange Classic 30 is now on eBay if'n anybody's interested.
Funny, doesn't seem to be much love for the Valve King around these parts. Seems like a pretty good little amp with lots of potential to me. Especially for the price. Maybe it's just me. Oh well..... Short clip here. (I broke a D string right before this, so I was limited to what I pull out quick on just the top three strings.) And the same short clip through my 4X10 cab: |

Special 130
Just picked up a Special 130 and it's AWESOME!
Don't know the year but I swapped out the scorpion, which didn't sound horrible but the celestion classic lead 80 I put in just opens the thing up nicely. Definitely a keeper. Rock on PEAVEY! |

Had a Renown thru the 80's (Great Tone), toured with a Session 400 (LOUD and indestructible) all through the 90's, currently have a ValveKing 112. Fantastic amp!
