Pretty good deal on Super Champ XD
Just got home with a new SCXD from Guitar Center for $254.71!
I'll explain: I had a 10% off any item flyer coupon when I got home yesterday (but they're available at GC online or at the retail stores too). Trying to avoid sales tax too, I called GC online to see if the 10% deal was good online, which it was, but since they had a retail presence in my state they had to collect sales tax also. So I called MF ( no retail presence in my state and therefore no tax) for a price match, and they verified the coupon and agreed to do the 10% off with free shipping, which would be $269.99 delivered to my house. Then it hit me: why not give my local GC a shot at matching that? Well, they were happy to do it so the selling price was 254.71 + 6% sales tax for a total of 269.99 out the door! And I don't have to wait... I just needed to grab it and go, but based on opinions and You Tube clips I'm pretty sure I'll love it. But with their return policy no way to lose. Ya'll be aware of that 10% off on any single item thing. It's for real and there were just a few exclusions, not many.

OK, as much as I dislike GC at times, hearing this makes me want to work there just for the discount. At least they'd have a decent salesperson.

Why do you think she works there? She just needed something for a few hours while she's finishing college. I'm the one that suggested she apply... and I reap the rewards ;-)

^that sounds like my amanda^
Amanda is my guitar center girl. I knew her from local shows before she started working there, so when she started she gave me the best deals ever. She takes what they buy used stuff in at, or cost adds 5 bucks to it for her commission and I get stuff for that. needless to say, I love amanda.

That is a good deal. I picked mine up for less than the price of a Vibro Champ XD and it wasn't at GC. Couldn't pass it up for what I got out the door for. If I remember right it was $138 or so. Its been a while now so I kinda forget.

In general the mark up on guitars and amps is at least 100% so if GC is advertising the SCXD for $299 retail they are buying it for $150 or less. That's a lot of amp for the money weather you get it wholesale or retail.

Its a great amp and is worth buying at the full retail of $299. If you can get it for less all the better. I just kinda lucked into finding mine at what I paid. Sometimes it just pays to be at the right place at the right time with some cash in the jeans...

Most retailers pay 50% of list price, not 50% of what they're selling it for. The SCXD lists for $399.99 so most likely it cost the retailer ~$200. It's still a great amp for the money, regardless of what the retailer paid for it.

Off topic but I traded in my Artcore and another Ibanez acoustic electric for my Seagull. I paid $199 for my Artcore about 2 years ago NEW (it was a discontinued model) and they gave me $129 for it. (I got $75 for the acoustic). While I was paying the difference for my seagull I asked the guy if he was going to sell the Artcore for $200 and he said yea it will probably be around there.
I wish I knew someone who worked a GC! I'd be more willing to shop there instead of online just to get my stuff immediately and make returns much easier too. I wish retailers would realize they can make just as much or even MORE money by reducing prices and selling by volume. More people would shop and actually BUY when in the store. How many times have you been in GC for a hour or more and walked out with NOTHING!? |

I just got one for $249.00 out the door yesterday at my GC! Since it was the last one, and they're selling like hotcakes, I figured I had little chance to barter. There wasn't a price tag on it, so I just said..."This would be a neat practice amp. What's it like $200 or so?". The guy punched a few keys...says $249. Hey, I'm not complanining!!!!
