Re- Tolex
Did Fender paint their amp cabinets before the Tolex was applied? I just removed the Tolex from an 80's Fender cab. and it looks like it was painted black....Does the bare wood need some kind of sealer applied before the glue?????

re sealer
I have recovered some old Fender amps where it did look like they painted the wood.
I usually do sand the wood to get it smooth and sometimes I'll spray some sealer on, or you can just paint it black , if you're going to paint the inside of the cab you might as well spray it all IMHO. You don't have to seal the wood , I've done it both ways. I use the stinky solvent base contact cement, I spray it on with a cheap quart spray gun, pressure around 40 lbs, works geat for me. |
