I am so surprised that no one had mentioned the good old Peavey Classic .
I played both country and southern rock back in the 80's and the Classic had all kinds of twang and nasty for both. 2 6L6GXC's and 2 -12's really did the job well. A Strat and this amp will give you just about any sound you want.

A friend of mine plays his electric thru a DI box into the PA system, he gets some good tones, was playing an Epiphone Les Paul that is bright sounding. I am looking for a small amp in the 1 to 2 hundred dollar range that would fit the bill. I'm thinking about getting another Peavey Envoy 110. 40 watts into a ten inch speaker, only reverb, MF has them for 199. I'm a country player that always liked ss better too for some reason. In the seventies, I had an Ampeg 30 watt with spring reverb that I loved. It's a shame that Ampeg only makes bass amps now, except for the jet. The new vibro champs with digital FX don't make sense, should have put spring reverb on them. As a kid, first set I had was a Fender mustang with a vibro champ, 1965, both were under $200, including a fancey Fender HS case for the mustang

country amp

I'e got a SF Deluxe Reverb. It's great for country...and blues. For the few times it's not enough, I've got the Pro Reverb (loudest forty watts I've ever heard). Yeah I used to have a Twin and such, but like many have already posted, if it's too big a place for a Deluxe, everything's going to be miked anyway. There many other amps that do too, but SF and BF Fender Reverb amps nail classic country and will do the modern stuff too.

As far as Nashville records go.....Over the past 40 years if you would take a pole of who used what....Deluxe reverbs would win hands down with Princeton reverbs a close second....But the last 10-15 years is a mix of many different ones...

DrZ is the ticket....

I´m currently using a CVR and it doesn´t really do the thing for me in country music. It´s more of an rock/blues amp.
I´m trying to find a DrZ "Stang Ray" here in Europe that I can afford, they kind of expensive here.

No, a Super Reverb is a blues amp.

Some guys who used Twin's live used Vibrolux's in the studio.

Yup, as already said any amp with decent headroom.

And probably, some warmth, sparkle and solid bass...which would be many amps.

Way back when in another lifetime....I used a Peavey Stereo Chorus 2x12 with JBL E120's in it (blew the Scorpions) for country. I toured with it for about two years and after I retired from the road in '95 I passed it on to a steel player who still tours with it today. I'm a tube snob these days but I will have to admit they are great amps in both tones and bulletproof reliability. Heavy beast with the JBL's though.

Red knob twins do country pretty well, too.

Now, I'm in the EL84 dirty clean camp....love those tones.
