Help please!! Question about speaker wiring...

Can someone please explain to me how to wire a 4 x 10 speaker cab?

My 4 x 10's are rated @ 16 ohms each and my amp is a Peavey Classic 50 head and has 4,8 and 16 ohm speaker switch on the back.

Which ohm selection and wiring would help me achieve optimum performance from the amp and cab?

Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give!!

I'd run 'em all parallel (hook all the positives together and all the negatives together) at an effective 4Ω load. This will work your amp harder than if you run a higher impedance, but as a generality you'll get the most output that way.

Wouldn't hurt to try it wired in series/parallel (effectively 16Ω) just to see what you prefer.

This one will give you 16 ohm load on the amp:

or you could try this one for four ohms:

Set the switch on the amp for the right load and you're good to go.

Either one will work just fine. You'll probably get some differing opinions on which way is best, but if not, try each way and use the one that sounds best.
