That's probably right. Although a lot of people think that the Epi's stock 8" speaker is no good, it's quite adequate for me.

The Epi does not have pre and post gain?

No, it only has a volume control. Today, however, I brought home a 5 W Epi Valve Special which has gain/master. First impression is that it provides acceptable crunch at low volume.

I'm still discovering the L5T's capabilities, to emulate the old WEM's sound I actually have to back off the tone controls or it sounds too warm and lush. Is your VC30 a 210 or 212? I noticed a big difference with the LC15-10 and LC30II-12 speaker sizes.

Mine is a 112. As I wrote earlier, the clean is very good at low volume (great at high volume). I have used it in the studio at fairly high volume and at a couple of gigs.

For mousefart practice I use a Cube20X. J--)

I think the Epi Valve Special will work OK for low volume practice. If it doesn't, I'll probably get a Vox AC15CC. I have tried it and it provides nice crunch at low volume.
